How to keep people intrigued!

in #blog6 years ago

Want people to read right down to the bottom and to the end of your post? Supply them catchy intrigues.

Blogging is like writing books.

  1. The title of the book must be dynamic.
  2. The quality and colour of the image on the cover must have emotional impact.
  3. Your first sentence (introduction) must be a grand statement to instantly get people’s attention and offer an intriguing fact
  4. Your first paragraph (sub-heading or content listing) sets the scene and stirs expectations
  5. The first page mustn’t be boring: People tend to close the book when they discover it has long-winded descriptions. Rather, action and animated dialogue quickly sets the scene and grips people’s imagination.
  6. Questions put forward at the beginning, set firmly in people’s minds and provide a debate or problems that need answers to.
  7. The first chapter (paragraph of the blog) setups the drama of the plot and introduces the main characters
  8.  There must be a variance of characters’ temperaments. Good, dynamic, fascinating personalities. Including funny persons who make silly `cheekery’ remarks.  (Sorry, the word `cheekery’ is our peculiar family jargon, used to describe exultant cheeky statements, that provokes chuckles and uplifts the soul. Our family is always ready for a laugh or to initiate it).
  9. Within each chapter there should be one or two intriguing facts to keep one reading on and on. And make a dramatic remark at the end of each chapter that will build tension and profound desire to read on, well into the next chapter.
  10. The whole story must give people a sense of adventure. The plot provides a road map, from one situation to another… keeping the flow of interest, as concepts are absorbed, analysed and valuated.
  11. At the end of the book (blog) people expect a conclusive declaration that will round up the plot with a happy (and beneficial) ending.

The mood of the book (blog):

Remember your readers are humans. Select topics and conversations that people like and feel comfortable with. Yet provide intriguing concepts that make people desire and need answers to.

Write in such a way that people feel they’re part of the adventure. Supplying easy to understand situations they can relate to.

Your enthusiasm and mood is felt, because of the way you write and the jargon you use. Because you have experienced certain things in life you are more able to express the developments and passions of those moments in time.

On the best sellers list!

  • If your books weren’t selling: You have to promote them with enthusiasm (clickable headlines and sub-headings). And then give them what you have suggested in your promotion. Then they will start `selling-like-hot-cakes’.
  • Remember you readers’ involvement is important. Their word of mouth (comments) confirms the book was fantastic and authentically successful.

It's heartbreaking how we miss oout to read good information in a blog just because their authors were not skilled enough.
Your tips will help most of us adjust on how we write.
As you said, the writers mood is one thing we undermine it plays a big role.
Posts started with excitement, anger, humor are more likely to be read. Thanks for those tips anyway.

There is a lot of truth in your advice that many (including me) often do not grasp when they write their blog.
Your post can be called a small tool for writing a quality blog (book), what would make it popular.
Of course, it's worth noting that each of us has an individuality and writes and chooses a topic from his personal preference, but I think that using such obvious rules, you will approach the success much closer.
As they say: "A man learns from his mistakes, and an intelligent person learns from other people's mistakes and advice"
Thank you

Thats right, well said

thank you, I'm on the platform for the first day and I'm just learning, but your advice will give me an excellent experience to make my future blog interesting for my future readers.
Many tips can be called universal and applicable not only here, but also in any other place, even in books.
Thank you once again for such help and valuable information.

THANK YOU FOR EXPLANTER INFORMATION

Book reviews have no grammar. From my personal experience, I gave what I gave. Do not write it anyway, the reader should be interested in reading the book as it reads.

I learned the hard way that all this apply here on Steemit.

You must have a catchy headline as a must and the first sentence....

The headline must be attention grabbing...use numbers or how to....
Eg 3 Easy ways to ....

Nice post! I follow you =)

Thank you for an interesting post with a list of good advice for authors. This is helpful as I am in the middle of a writing process (a book aimed for students in higher education). Deeply I know about this, but it's easy to forget during the writing process. Fortunately, my wise publisher, reminds me of this.

I loved this description of your precise and simple, which shows that you were writing before.
That's why I have a question.
Do you write books before and if your answer is yes you can give me their names:) I also hope they sell online to buy them because really your style always pulls me

I started writing art books years ago. I learnt a lot from that experience.
But book publishers will tell you: writing practical art books is a lot different from writing adventure books and novels!
And art websites are a lot different from normal websites. Why? Because art websites are not so popular as news, sports, keep healthy & slim websites, etc. So we have to work harder to get noticed.
Since I've had my own art website (www.adafagan.co.za) I learnt a lot about blogging, and still learning because the way technology and people's expectations are changing all the time.
On my website are free art books downloads. Aimed for beginners. If you are interested...I've already had over 800 taken downloads.

Will check them out.

hmm, another one. interesting but one thing i have come to observe, if your readers lack a reading culture. irrespective of how interesting the title, first paragraph and so forth is intriguing they will not read further. so what builds a reading culture?

There are many reason and tips on your question. If you have been following my previous posts on blogging, you will have checked out what makes people read on and down the page, right to the bottom of blogs.
