Brainxercise
I was watching a video on YouTube last night which made me think about things. Things like how people usually end up in the same place where they initially started from. How and why they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. How and why their life follows a predictable pattern. And eventually I made a thread on Twitter about it. And I thought maybe I should share the thread here as well. So, here we go...
You think approximately 60-70 thousand thoughts in a day. Out of these, 90% are the same thoughts from the day before. So if you're going to do the same things every single day, you're going to hardwire your brain into a finite signature.
Which will make your brain incapable of doing new things, taking different decisions, acting differently in situations and will define your behaviour and make it predictable. Your brain will slowly start losing control over your body and develop something called as a 'habit'.
A habit is basically when your body takes decisions and not your brain. And it is difficult to break habits. If you're wondering why things always end up in the same way for you, it's because of your habits. Your brain knows you're wrong but you can't do anything about it. Because the brain no longer has control over taking decisions, your body does it for you now.
Solution to that?
Do things differently everyday to make sure your brain is functioning and has enough power to think. Smallest of things like choosing a different route to go to office everyday can help to make sure your brain has the power to think and has enough control over your body and decisions.
These small things make sure your brain has to rethink how to complete a task everyday and not rely on the solution from the day before. The rethinking then helps making you sharper and different than yesterday.
And it takes time. Breaking habits takes time. Like I said, 90% of what you think today is from yesterday. So the odds of the 10% taking over the 90% in one day are quite less. Which is why you need to break the routine, change things around you for long enough until it becomes part of the 90%.
