When you are still Young, Try to Do Something more Important than Networking. -- 趁年輕，去做比維護人脈更重要的事情

Some thoughts after reading "Let's say, how many Efforts have you Ever Made? " -- by Wang Yuan Cheng.
這篇文章是我對於 王遠成 『老實說，你做過多少努力』這本書的另外一些感想。

『趁年輕，去做比維護人脈更重要的事情。』
"When you are still Young, Try to Do Something more Important than Networking."

這是書裡某一張的章節名，我直接引用進來了。其實剛看到這個標題時，覺得還滿聳動的，畢竟『人脈』的觀念在我們的文化裡已經根深柢固，維護人脈也長久以來被我們視為重要的一環。為什麼作者會這麼說呢？是什麼東西比這們好用的『人脈』更重要呢？

This is a chapter title from the book, it somehow impressed me, because as a student from College of Management, I've always been taught to "Build your Network". We all have stories in mind about people having successful careers because of their "Network", but is it really that import? or are there something more important than this?

『人脈非常重要，但它不應該被無比的神化。』
"Networking is important, but sometimes we overestimate its value."

誰都不能否認人脈的重要，沒有人脈你就算空有一身技藝及遠大的抱負，也沒有人能夠幫你實現。但『人脈』常常在不知不覺中被我們給「神化」了。更多的時候我們聽了一個故事，某某人又因為認識某某人而進了一家大公司，都會直覺反應：「人脈真是太重要了！我也要去認識這種人！」但我們不曾想過，為什麼別人能夠有這樣的機會？為什麼有人願意帶他進入公司？我們不曾想過，他可能為了這個機會已經付出了無比的努力，或是在前一個工作有優異的表現，才會被人看上。有一句諺語「機會是留給準備好的人。」有人願意提拔你，必定也是看到你的潛能，覺得你會有用，才願意給你動用這條人脈的。如果你自己沒有準備好，那必定不會有人找上你。

When we heard a story like: "Someone just gets into that company because he knows the CEO of the company from high school." We think about networking, we think he is lucky. But we never think about how many efforts he had made, or why the CEO chose him among all his other classmates. Maybe he had been working very hard for years and finished some awesome projects, but we seldom consider that. If someone notices you and help you in your career, that means you definitely did something that just proves yourself. There's a saying: "Opportunities are for those who are ready".

最大的人脈是自己本身的力量
The most powerful thing in your network is yourself

有一句話說：「人脈是無數連在一起的0，而你是最前面的那個數字。」如果你是個有能力的人，那麼後面無數的人脈可能是你邁向成功的墊腳石；但如果你沒有價值，那麼再多的0，合在一起還是0。

Somebody said, "If you want to evaluate your career, your network is like a bunch of zeros while you are the first digit." If you are a highly capable person then, of course, your network is gonna help you get an even better career. But if you forget that you are still the most important factor, you may end up having lots of friends, but still get a 0.

所以究竟什麼是我們該去做、比人脈「更重要」的事？當然就是充實自己了。別再把「建立人脈」當成自己出去吃喝玩樂逃避工作的藉口，一個成功的事業中最重要的絕對還是努力，並且在看到機會時，勇敢的嘗試吧！

So what exactly is more important than networking? I would say, just better yourself. Stop using "networking" as an excuse when you want to hang out with your friends. The most import factor in your life will always be yourself and what you are capable of, keep that in mind and seize the chance whenever you have, that's more likely to help you make a big step.
