It’s a piece of a embroidery or a carpet. It could be a part of an artwork or a part of a carpet. But it’s sort of like taking a photo of some hair and asking if it belongs to living or a dead person. There is no way to know, since the person isn’t on the photo :)
Your quantum answer is correct. It is a piece of carpet (at Hong Kong Airport). I was interested if somebody would recognise it as non paint. :)
