Journey to financial independence [#1]

in #blog7 years ago

Hello good friends, hope you are having a nice day!

I decided to write this blog more for myself than for anyone else, this is to motivate me to keep going and will somewhat serve like a diary. But I'm also hoping that I can add some value to your life, and maybe avoid the mistakes I'm going to make on this journey.

If you want background information you should just read my introduction. I don't see the point in writing the same things twice (it lessens value & will spares you time).
So about a week ago I decided that I should try making money online. The things I had was an Instagram account that I was growing in my free time and it had around 3k followers which is not a lot. So I then discovered dropshipping* and decided to give it a shot. I set up my store for my Instagram account and tried to monetize it. As you probably can expect I made 0 sales, my audience was just too small. I then tried to think of some basic marketing actions I could take. I tried discounts, didn’t work out. After a day I had the idea to try to make my store unique from others by shooting a video of myself talking about the store. I was basically hoping to attract attention that way because it is unusual in my niche to do that, and that kind of worked. I got some potential customers, and when I started chatting with my customers a lot of people were actually very positive and supportive. But I realized my audience has no money because we are basically all teenagers (feelsbadman). This got confirmed after I switched to a business account.

Things I learned:
-When starting an online business, choose your niche carefully and make sure your audience has money :x.
-Logic doesn’t really work on most people, that is why marketing is made to hit emotional triggers.
-The basics of drop shipping.
-People are actually nicer than I thought.
-Try to make your product/brand unique and or memorable, if not make sure your marketing is on point.

If there is anything you want to say (correct me, teach me, criticize me), then leave something in the comments. I accept all help I can get.

*Dropshipping: You basically have a store set up but you do not keep any of the goods you sell in stock. Instead when the customers pay you, you use that money to buy the goods with the manufacturer. It has advantages like not having to pay for a warehouse and no risks with overstocking. The only costs you need to pay is the dropshipping site, a domain and your marketing (which you can do for free if you have some kind of social media with a huge following).

PS: Sorry if I made any grammar mistakes or if my structure is bad, English is not my native language & I don’t write a lot.
