The Uncertainty of the present - Prologue

Many of us here have grown up contemplating the metamorphosis in the world and modern man from the globalization expansion, which some place, since 1987 during the governments of Margaret Tatcher and Ronald Reagan, and whose categorically imperative expansion arose as a result of the fall of Soviet block. So I have seen fit to make a list of topics that I would like to discuss and if possible discuss with you in future publications. This is the prologue, of those writings.

Calm down, I do not intend to expressly discourse on globalization, but to express a bit of opinion about it and its effects on contemporary man; about those billions who suffer from living with less than a dollar a day without access to basic services such as water or food, for example, as well as all the changes that have occurred and continue to arouse due to it.

There may have been a time when things were clearer and simpler, a juncture in history when it was possible to look at the world and at a glance understand what was happening around. But if such a time existed, many of us did not have to enjoy it.

We live in a present full of dilemmas.

The first years of this 21st century have been generous in relative certainties and truths with the consistency of a sigh. I exaggerate? Maybe, better to say that the certainties and truths have the permanence of a summer downpour.

It is only a trial to understand the present in which we live.

Captaneo a sailboat whose only safe movement is the drift through themes of our time without pretending to reach a safe harbor. Here there are no truths in bronze or last words. Neither is a manual of quick consultations to build theories, it is only an exercise of inquiry and debate to stimulate the neurons. To agree or not with the ideas that will arise is a secondary matter, because none, not even the most brainy or categorical, are placed in an absolute position. Here is perhaps one of the first dilemmas that we have to face in our present:

Uncertainty is the sign of the times.

Self-taught by necessity, being raised in Venezuela, I am part of generations full of promises and aspirations that seek to rise in the waves of modernity. The counterculture is a protagonist that aims to build a better world by dint of art and science, but also of empathy and imagination. That is why we should not consider these years as lost, but do not doubt that they will continue to be hard to learn.

Join me to see how the great forces of the second half of the twentieth century have molded our lives as if they were plasticine: capitalism, communism, globalization, utopias, technology, ecology, spirituality, politics... What has been the legacy they are leaving us?

I only intend to create a balance and trace some lines of intelligence, curiosity, lightness, and sometimes trigger questions with more passion than method in an attempt to cover the multiple simultaneity that surrounds us and that we can call reality, environment, history, becoming, country or planet. All the same, in the end, this series of writings refers to the mess we are in.

As you will quickly discover, the starting point for this is acute observation. Then the arbitrary selection of topics will come to initiate debates that I aspire with you, the community of Steemit. We will open ourselves freely until reaching universal dimensions, aspiring to take the focus beyond Venezuela with the intention of offering us a world panorama.

Aspirations will arise and lines of thought will be strengthened, which will invite us to deepen our beliefs without measuring the distance or its end. Capitalism and its nuances, freedom and its limits, technology and its traces in our lives, the degradation of the environment and our social responsibility against the raises, the worker and his relationship with the company, the double role between citizen and consumer, the tensions between the drive and the rules.

In these times of zapping and instantaneous visual interaction, we will seek to take us to a space beyond the surface, the appearance and the simulacrum, to investigate in depth but without losing the spark of the moment, because when replicating the fluency of the words, we will invite ourselves to sit down together in this exercise to look for some meaning to the days.
