in #blog7 years ago

in this series i would bust some myth we have been told by the society by sharing my knowledge i have research over the year, hoping to educated other. today topic is all about antibiotics in animals.

antibiotic have been used increasingly in the recent years to meet human's demand. Year after years human's population have been growing larger, which means more food is required to achieve a balance diet. scientist have invented antibiotic and other chemicals to help increase production of meat.

what is antibiotics?
its a type of chemical that inhibits bacteria growth and also killing them.

what they have told us about it?
antibiotic in animal will be transferred to humans as they ingest the meat product with antibiotic. These antibiotic then will be toxic to humans body.

the Truth
antibiotic are not found in animals when killed, the meat product are check by FDA to ensure there are no antibiotic left in the meat. so whats the worries about? its more on the bacteria that survived the antibiotic which made them immune to the drugs. This made them stronger and when these bacteria end up in human's body when ingested , they then causes serious sickness. these bacteria are hard to kill, which makes it dangerous. common bacteria found are salmonella, listeria, and campylobacter.

the solution?
many people believe that buying antibiotic free or organic meat are much more safer, however in this growing economy hardly anything these of this business people say are trustable, they can find loophole to claim their products are free from all these chemical. besides that, antibiotic free and organic meat are highly priced, more then what majority people can afford. Don't worry, there is alternative solution. all you have to do is cook the meat, the bacteria dries at high temperature. besides that be sure to avoid cross contamination by keeping raw food away from cooked food. also make sure to sanitize all surface which the meat product have been contacted, such as chopping board, counter-top, bowls, and knife. you could do that with either covered item in salt for few hours or washing with hot water.

Interesting. The issue is if people get bombarded with antibiotics from the foods, the usual medicines and antibiotics provided to cure diseases will not work as the body has already been filled up with antibiotics from the foods, therefore higher quantities will be needed. What is your opinion on sushi and raw fish?

Thanks @gisi , I appreciate you taking ur time to check out my post. Sushi and raw fish is actually one of the topic will plan to share in the future, I'll send you a link when it's out. But as a quick answer to your question, fish are safer to be consumed as bacteria found in land animals are harder to survive in the ocean due to many factors, however one thing we have to look out for , which are worms. Sushi are safe if all safety procedures are practise, which include deep freezing to kill the worms. However most restaurants assume the fish they bought are already deep freezed.
