我的母校，我的母宿，60週年慶典 60th Anniversary of YingLin Tang, the student hostel I lived at University

Last Saturday, I came back to the Chinese University of Hong Kong, my alma mater, to join the 60th anniversary of YingLin Tang.

I believe some of you have heard about the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). It is the second university in HK. And YingLin Tang? YingLin Tang of the first student hostel of Chung Chi College. Later Chung Chi College combined with other three colleges to form CUHK and so YingLing Tang became the first student hostel of CUHK.

上星期六，我回到了我的母校香港中文大學，出席了應林堂的六十周年誌慶。

香港中文大學是香港的第二所大學，相信大家都很認識了，但應林堂是什麼？應林堂是崇基學院第一間宿舍樓，後崇基學院與另三家學院合併成中文大學，應林堂就自然成為了中大的第一間宿舍樓。

YingLin Tang was named after Lee YingLin, one of the founder of Chung Chi College. It has been 60 years since it was built. As the first student hostel of CUHK, YIngLin Tang are very famous in the school. Every freshman never choose YingLin Tang when they applies for student hostel.

It’s always exciting when a freshman chooses a student hostel. How’s it look like? Comfortable? And of course, any pretty girls? In HK, we have orientation camp before new semaster. Freshmen always ask the seniors about student hostels. And all seniors tell them not to choose YingLin Tang.

應林堂以崇基學院第一任院長李應林先生為命，一座三層的小樓，提供103個宿位，到今60年，除了翻新外，一直保留著當年的面貌。作為中大的第一間宿舍樓，應林堂在中大是很出名的，每一年入學的新生，在選擇宿舍時，都不會選應林堂。

選擇宿舍，是每個新生都很期待的事情，到底到時候的宿舍長什麼樣子？舒適嗎？最重要當然是樓上樓下的女生漂不漂亮（按：香港的大學宿舍，沒有門禁，沒有夜禁，會男女同樓）！香港的大學都會有迎新營，新生們自然會跟師兄們了解各宿舍是怎麼樣的，然而師兄們都會一致叫男新生們不要選應林堂。

Why? To those who don’t understand YingLin Tang, it is a tiger cave, It’s the gangs in CUHK. Some may even think YingLing are real gangs haha! YingLing Tang is a male student hostel providing 104 beds.So, 104 boys never play those happy games, ice breaking games like other hostel. The game we play really “help you grow”. Our hostel tee is in black. When other students see 20-30 men in black, of course they have different thought haha.

When I was freshmen, I didn’t tick the box of YingLin Tang. But I was still selected……(later when I became the hostel committee I found out YingLin Tang got some special skills when selecting students…) Then, I became a real man from a shy boy.

為什麼？因為應林堂給外人的感覺是龍潭虎穴，是「中大的黑社會」（我聽說有學生真的以為應林是黑社會，哈哈！）。應林堂是男舍堂，共104個宿位，一班男生，玩得不是其他舍堂的什麼溫馨遊戲，我們玩的都是狠的，真正「讓人成長」的遊戲。應林堂的堂衣是黑色的，當其他人看到一大群黑衣男人走在一起，自然給人特別的聯想，哈哈！

當年我選宿舍時，根本就沒有選應林堂，但不知為何，我卻進了應林堂，好吧，住吧......結果一住就改變了我（後來我也成了應林堂的宿生會，才知道應林堂有特別的方法選人......），也讓我從一個當年酒吧只去過一次的小男生，甚至是書呆子，變成了真男兒。

I experienced a lot in the 3 years life of YingLin Tang. We never locked our room even we were out. If someone lock and hang a rubber band on the handle, ok, you understand what I mean. But we always forgot to do that. One time, I just opened the room door next to mine to find my roommate. I saw him rushing out from bed, and naked, to close the door. HAHA! He forgot the lock the door when having good time with girlfriend.

Some interesting experience: We played water battle and the firemen came. Later I heard that fuses of the whole ground floor was blown……Also, ambulances were also frequently visitors, as we always drank too much….And, every year we went to swim at the Lake Ad Excellentiam of CUHK. Too many memories.

三年的應林生活，實在是很多經歷，我們的房間從不鎖門，就連外出都不鎖門，如果有人鎖門了，在門把上掛了一條橡皮條，就只有一個可能，嘿，大家懂的。不過，大家都習慣不鎖門了，有一次我去找對面房的室友，一打開門，就只見他一絲不掛的衝過來把門關上，原來......啪啪的時候忘鎖門了.......

有趣的事情還有很多，例如有一次我們在打水戰，弄得消防都來吧了，後來聽說有半層樓的保險絲都燒了......還有數次救護車來了，因為有同學喝得快要死了......還有就是我們每年都會一起跳到中大的未圓湖游泳......回憶很多，太多，只能說年青是好。

Although YingLin Tang is a male hostel, it never lack females. Sometimes, when I woke up and went to washroom with just underwear, there was a girl brushing teeth and say hi to me. When I was year 2, the HK girlfriend of my roommate just stayed in our room for two weeks. In the two weeks time, my roommate went to Taiwan for one week to visit his Taiwan girlfriend. And I stay with his HK girlfriend for a week……

Too many memories, too many experiences. My alcohol tolerance, my big Two skills and also the my thick skin in front of ladies, were trained during the three years. And you know, you will never quit when you enter the hostel. But, the really reason letting us love the place is our unite as one. But seems I need to open a new post for this. So back to the topic.

雖然應林堂是男生宿舍，但從不缺女生，不要想歪，我只是說宿生的女朋友，沒有交易成份。很多時候，當我早上醒來，只穿一條短褲去洗手間時，會看到有女生剛好在刷牙，還跟我say hi。我記得有一次，我室友的香港女朋友在我們房間住了兩個星期，中間我室友去了台灣一個星期找他的台灣女朋友，我就跟他的香港女朋友共住了一個星期......

回憶很多，經歷很多，現在想來，我現在的酒量（當然跟北方漢子沒法比）、大老二技術、撩妹的臉皮等等，都是從那時候建立起來的......所以你會明白， 住了進去，就不會走了。以上的只是好玩，真正讓我們愛上這裡的，卻是我們的團結，我們永遠是各項院舍活動、比賽等最團結的團隊，不過編幅所限下次再說，回到正題了，上星期六是應林堂的六十周年誌慶，我是一定要出席的。

應林堂為了這次的慶典，作了兩個超帥的舉動，第一個是這個巨型的花牌......太帥了......

還有一個，就是在港鐵站放了廣告......

YingLing Tang was the same. We had many bros coming back. Even the big bros 60 years ago came back! 2pm was our opening ceremony, we have the performance of dragon dance and also the kick off!
回到應林堂，跟以前還是一樣。很多大師兄都來了，就連60年前第一屆的大師兄都來了！正式開幕，先由我們舍堂的舞師隊表演，然後是切燒豬儀式！

Then we have a group photos under the flower plague. After that, drink was ready.
當然，大家要大起到花牌前拍照吧！花牌過後，酒水已準備好。

We had our celebrating dinner at Chung Chi Tang, which is a student canteen. To us, Chung Chi Tang is the best place. It was the place we solved our three meals. It is much better than any hotel.
到了晚上的晚宴，我們就選擇了眾志堂，我們的學生飯堂進食，對於我們來說，什麼酒店都不是好地方，這個我們當年解決一日三餐的地方才是最好的地方，幾百個穿黑衣的男人，也挺震憾的哈哈。

We had a beer challenge in the dinner. Yeh our hostel got a traditional game: A senior has a beer challenge with a freshmen. The one who lose need to drink one more bottle. And this time, we got 4 for a team. I joined also but only got the 2nd runner up.
應林的晚宴當然少不得酒，我記得以前還是新生時，師兄們最喜愛就是拿著三瓶大啤，跟我們鬥快競飲，輸了的最喝一瓶，今天這個遊戲出現時，只是改成了四人一組，每人喝一瓶，我也參加了，但可惜我的組別只拿了第三。

Then, we had the whisky auction session. The committee ordered 150 bottles of whisky with the label of YingLin Tang! It’s too cool! We took 4 bottles with special number for auction. I bought one also.
然後也是很帥的環節，就是威士忌拍賣，籌委會特意從蘇格蘭訂製了150支威士忌，印上應林堂60周年的標簽，並拿出其中4瓶印著特別編號的威士忌拍賣，這個也太帥了吧！我自己也忍不住買了一枝，承惠$1400。

Time flies and it’s the end of the dinner. I wish it’s still great party when YingLin Tang come to 70th, 80th anniversary!
快樂的時間過得特別快，我希望到了應林堂七十年，八十年的時候，場面一樣那麼熱鬧！
