Thank you, Blockmountain!

We are very happy that we made it into the BlackMountain Community Music Primary Lineup, side by side with artists who are as passionate about musicianship as us. It is actually pretty cool that an orchestra that plays centuries-old music on catgut strings may make a contribution to a sampler with great music of all genres of different contemporary music styles.

When we heard of the BlockMountain project we wanted to contribute to it straightway. It seemed like a great idea to draw attention to some excellent musicians on Steemit who practice their art with as much passion and seriousness as we feel. It has become more and more difficult for musicians to find programmers (of concert halls) or labels who want to support them. Additionally, in our particular field of music, the audience often has to put up with a limited and regularly repeated canon of repertoire. A lot of musicians keep copying well known mainstream artists rather than developing a distinctive and personal style. The innovative and passionate artists who come up with new things often disappear into the shade of the everyday music business. The Blockmountain project (and Steemit) offers the possibility to get in touch with the community and possible future fans and supporters directly.

Our 1st contribution came from a concert with less known music by the young Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. He was 10 when he wrote this piece. At that time he was learning composing by writing music in the styles of composers who were fashionable at the time. Later, he developed into one of the greatest musicians and composers with a unique style of his own, always passionately fighting for his vision of good musicianship.

We love this movement for its fire and freshness. It was so much fun to play it.

The 2nd contribution is a somewhat surreal piece by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767). It seems (on purpose) as if the 2nd violins play the wrong piece which just by coincidenence fits to what the rest of the orchestra plays.

During the first half of the 17th century, Telemann was known in whole Europe—a real superstar one might say. He was witty and adventurous. He loved to mix features of different styles and create something new out of it. At the same he never lost his originality; you can always recognize his style.

After working at some important courts he decided to become independent from his noble employers and moved to Frankfurt and later to Hamburg (both towns were republics at that time).

He engraved his music himself (which at the time was a specialised art) which he published movement by movement every week. He lived to be quite old for that era, but even during the last ten years of his life, he kept developing his very own style to the very end.
