Slave Labor and BlockchainsteemCreated with Sketch.

Anything that tackles the issue of slave labor is a great thing. Seeing large corporations and governments using blockchain (link below) to this end is a huge deal. The food industry is particularly burdened by the use of slave labor and traceability is perfect for blockchain applications. It doesn’t only address issues like slave labor but improves food quality and sustainability as more interested parties further down the value chain can use it to make better purchases. Another area where blockchain could help with this industry is through a universal food industry coin. Either an existing coin or one that is created. The reason this could be so effective has to do with exchange rates. The further up the value chain you go the more sensitive markets are to pennies and typically these areas are economically disadvantaged. Big companies jump around from one market to another pressuring the little guy (not necessarily unethically). This fosters instability and all the associated problems that come from uncertainty. The fair trade movement is an effort to correct this problem but really is mostly symbolic and only a drop in the bucket. A universal coin could reduce/eliminate exchange rate volatility and put the arbitrage back on fundamental supply / demand issues. Much better stability and less incentive to use unethical practices like slave labor.
