For those who doesn't know, what is LBRY ?

LBRY is like a decentralized version of youtube meaning that the content is distributed all over the world on to the users and the users are able to make money of that. Content creators also have the possibility to charge for the content they upload. The tokens used is the LBRY coin and a creator can set a price for a specific content or choose to offer it for free and the users who are hosting that content will get a certain amount of that.

The CEO of LBRY Jeremy Kauffman appeared on a programming podcast the other and you should check it out:

I signed up then went through the quickstart guide. To receive credits, I had to download the app, and test some code, etc. Then it said that credits weren't automatic and I had to ask for the manually on slack. They were less than helpful on slack, so I'm not bothering with LBRY anymore.

Sorry to hear that you had such an experience, yeah as an early tester you need to join slack and then get the coins from them directly thats becasue they had an automated system before that was abused so they decided to do it manually for developers and testers right now. I went through the same process as you with slack but i did have any problems, they helped me straight away and was never any issue.

So, why don't they say that at the start of the process, before downloading and running the app?

Well, there's an FAQ on their site about how to get coins,

https://lbry.io/faq/earn-credits

If that was the thing you were referring to.

As I was already given the wrong information on the main page/s of their website, I had no need to read the FAQ about it.

The problem is that they get feedback, know what the problem is (there were other people on the forum confused about this also, others might not even bother to go further), but leave everything on the website as it is. They found the time to make the change shown when after downloading and running the app - why not to the part before instead?

Anyway, it was the attitude on Slack that got to me, so I'll leave it at that.
