Blockchain, Is it The Answer to Your Life’s Problems?

When I was a kid I wanted to be a comedian. Well, an entertainer by day, but a night I wanted to put in a cape, a mask, and go fight crime. The cape was easy, there was a reason why my mom was always looking for those table cloths.

However, wearing underwear over my pants is something that I will never confess to.

We all liked super-heroes, but I never had real life heroes, at least for a while, until I saw that Chinese man standing in front of a tank in Tienanmen Square. I was completely blown away.

Then I started to see some heroes here and there, to acknowledge their existence, most of them will skip the annals of history with no fame nor glory, but they are heroes non the less. I just wished that someone could’ve given their unsung stories a proper voice.

Joseph Schultz, was a regular 19 year old kid. A true war hero, he was forced to enlist against his will (mandatory conscription) so in his first day, he was witnessing a group of people being executed, so he laid down his weapon and stood with his fellow human beings.

He took a bullet in the heart that ended his life, but he taught us this:

You Always Have a Choice.

It’s like that scene from Game Of Thrones where Daario Naharis tells what’s her name, Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, Mother of Dragons…Oh my God, who writes this fucking shit?

Ok, let’s cut it down, the dragon chick (not you Amanda), he tells her this: Everybody has a choice, even slaves.

What do you mean? She says.

They too have a choice: Slave or die.

We all have to make choices in life, sooner or later we all do, but sometimes they can scary, sometimes you get frozen by the fear of making the wrong decision. In fact the very existence of the world “Decidophobia” is enough proof of the traumatizing effects that decision-making has on some people.

That’s why people keep postponing making decisions time and time again, because in reality they’re terrified. Matter of fact someone just told me the other day that neurologically speaking, the fear you feel about making important decision is very close in intensity to that of a sudden death.

And with fear, everybody has different reactions. Take the titanic for example, there were some people who couldn’t handle their fears and they started jumping to the ocean, from the frying pan and into the fire.

Others were heading towards the life boats trying to survive. They too were afraid, they just decided to face their fears.

After all they say that courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s knowing that you can die and jump on your horse anyways. Ok, I might have borrowed the quote from some John Wayne movie but the point stands.

And the third category was those who just sat there and said: “Na-ah! The Titanic will never sink!” while the water was already up to their knees, insanely enough. Denial, believe it or not, is a true phenomena.

Now, in case you haven’t notice, we don’t have to ride horses towards a certain death, nor face a firing squad, not even stand in front of Chinese tanks.

The Titanic part I stand by, the ship maybe is sinking (economy wise) but there are actual lifeboats out there.

Now I know, things are bad, war after war, and preparation for more war, even on a slow Sunday you’ll find them sending drones to blow the shit out of wedding parties. And then they tell you: The world is a dangerous place.

They spend trillions of Dollars to slaughter millions of people, and end up with the highest debtor nation the world has ever seen.

“I’m not going to shoot a million Dollars missile on a 10 Dollar tent and hit a camel on the butt”- George W Bush.

Oh wait, that’s exactly what happening. Actually, 9 out of 10 drone victims are not even targeted in the first place. Not even war they can handle, and that’s supposed to be the part their good at.

I’m not saying that things are not bad, I’m not denying the fact that the government is inapt, I agree with you, everything they touch turns to crap.

I’m saying there is a way to step out, to opt out. I’m saying that once every few generations there is a new revolutionary trend that arrives and changes everything. The paradigm shift, they call it. That time, when people realize that they were afraid, and that they now can just let go, time they realize that it’s ok step out from the current system.

And that time is right now.

Take real estate for example: “Tap your home equity! Tap your home equity!” How many times we’ve heard that shit?

"There is no crisis, there is no real-estate bubble, just tap your fucking home equity!"

Result? 19 million homes seized, millions of families lost their homes and were tossed to the shadows.

Now, in the middle of recession, the Blockchain comes around and revolutionizes the real estate market by empowering the individual. After all, decentralization does nothing but allowing people to trade peacefully among peers.

For instance, according to Airbnb 56% of hosts in San Francisco said the service helps them pay their rent.
San Francisco by the way just happens to be is one of the most expensive cities as rent is concerned. Could you imagine how hard it would've been to rely only on centralization?

That being said, there is one Gov’t backed real estate project that is booming: The prison industrial complex, hands down the fastest real estate development the world has ever seen. 25% of the world inmates are hosted there, most of them for victimless crimes. If that doesn't boggle your mind, then I don't know what does.

Other than that, you’re right, the strange inefficiency of bureaucrats is absolutely mind-blowing.

Let me give you another example, the transportation system for example. In New York city, the price of the Taxi cab medallions is almost one million Dollars! As I said, everything they touch turns to crap.

Despite the absurdly high price, people prefer Uber anyways, because people are nicer, because they have better cars, they even offer you a bottle of water sometimes.

That being said, I wouldn’t blame the cab driver for not smiling enough, I wouldn’t be either if I owed the city a million bucks for a stupid piece of paper that says ‘Taxi’.

“Honey, this love is so good we gotta get the government involved. We need judges and lawyers involved in this shit, baby!” - Doug Stanhope.

In case you haven’t noticed, politicians have a pattern, they prefer to rule by scarcity, so what they do is that they create licenses for everything, so that they keep driving the prices up, crash the business since they wouldn’t possible keep up. Then buy them up for cheap to have an absolute monopoly.

And that stupid bureaucracy of course does nothing but create more problems. So the unemployment soars. And they try to solve the problems with the same thinking. They print more and more and devalue the currency and then they wonder how come things didn’t magically get better.

Only this time, people have a choice because technology has made it possible. You don’t have a job but do you have a skill? You log on into Fiverr, or Task Rabbit, or Odesk… And you find people who are willing to pay for your services.

The government fucked up again and drove inflation up and the purchasing power down?

Then you have to save, what do you do? You begin sharing rides, you use Blab la car, or whatever app you prefer.

You Commute to work everyday? There are apps lets you can rent out extra seats in your car, you save money the other person pays less, and everybody wins.

There is a reason They Call it the sharing economy.

You have a movie you want to make, an album you want to record, an app you want to create? You have options now, from crowdfunding to equity fund raising, all without having to deal with an army of gate-keepers.

And of course, you have steemit.

You wanna change the world and help the poor of the planet? The Blockchain is addressing that too. There are apps like Kiva and many other peer-to-peer micro finance apps that helps to alleviate poverty by allowing everyday people in developed nations to finance budding entrepreneurs in developing nations.

Small loans from one peer to another, no matter the geographical area. Something that would’ve been pretty damn near impossible without the Blockchain.

Alt Text

By decentralizing the economy, the peer to peer revolution is injecting money directly into local economies, bypassing large corporations and cutting out an extra layer of costs.

Forbes estimates that the revenue people will earn from the sharing economy will surpass $3.5 billion this year, with a growth rate of 25% and this is just the beginning.

So you have a choice, I know it’s tough to look for new solutions, I know that for some people the brain much rather stay comfortable in a state of complaining rather than jumping on that fucking horse.

But luckily the world is changing, and the Blockchain is already providing opportunities to those who are brave enough to see.

One thing we know for sure, is that if you don’t take steps nothing will change, that complaining on its own is not a valid strategy and that change will come to those who have no fear.

The Answer to your life’s problem lies within you. You can focus on the bad and the things that you can’t control, or you can join us in this de-centralized revolutionary trend, that’s shooting towards the moon, so you might wanna tag along.

So what is it gonna be?

Let’s Take a Howl at That Moon!

A very well thought out and presented post. It puts me in mind of one of these interesting facts that comes up again and again when people are surveyed about their worst fears and how they would rank them.

Usually death is quite high about no. 2 . Moving house and divorce are usually high too, but almost always the no. 1 fear, the one thing worse than death for most people is "public speaking". That's right people fear public speaking more than death itself. I think many of us will have experienced this extreme fear just before making a speech then when we actually do it the fear quickly dissipates.

I thought that was interesting given your discussion of how people on the titanic behaved and the three different types of response to fear. Often the response particularly if it is pathological is due to a lack of information or distorted information. Giving a public speech is so hard because irrationally there is a fear of public death or more accurately humiliation. It is usually irrational because most people only have to do it occasional and so can't make an accurate judgement of the actual circumstances. In most senses it is a fear of the unknown.

Why is this important? It is important because the power structures be they the mass media, politicans, governments, corporations etc tend to use this fear to manipulate us and keep us under control. They make us think that we don't have control over these fears and that they have the answers.

We need their services, their judgement, their help because we can't make a choice ourselves. In a sense one could say that this externalisation of choice is the ultimate result of materialism.

We have been convinced that we no longer have the ability to make choices or decisions ourselves and must be instructed by and indeed pay others to do it for us.

It is the ultimate infantilisation.

Amazing post! The ultimate infantilisation.

I wrote about this once you know: You Can't Handle The Nanny. Exactly what you said, they want to keep us safe from choice, from decisions...etc.

Thanks for the great comment by the way!

Thanks for reading. I will go back and see if I can find the previous post. I look forward to reading more of your material as I have only just discovered it:)

Great post! It's sad to see how people, especially close friends, get stuck in time because they are afraid to take decisions. And it's even worse when they are deliberately pretending that they don't have the choice in the first place because it's more comforting to feel sorry for yourself than to suck it up and take some risk. Steemit might be a great platform for them to step out of the current system and search for other opportunities.

I know, fear freezes people sometimes :(

Fighting through the myriad of choices, fear, and uncertainty is our deep desire of ambition. As a species, we are not satisfied with the status-quo and pursue greater and greater goals. Every other organism, except perhaps bacteria, would have been satisfied in our proliferation of the planet, conveniences at hand, and the glory of all our accomplishments. But not us.

So goes the evolution of technology, currency, communication, and power. It rides on the backs of the ambitious who push aside fears and press forward. The blockchain is but another example to make things better, faster, and more available.

I am all for it, as long as we stay ahead of bacteria. We must always be one step ahead of those little buggers.

Hahah I love the last part!

To da moooon!

What an exciting time to be living. Lots of things will change due to automation, cryptocurrency, blockchain, smart contracts, etc.! This is the start of the future..

Welcome to Steemit.

Sure it is answer if you get somehow enough means live and do what you want.

It's up to us what me make from our life. I knew too many people who complained about everything. They even complained about me being too positive. Well, that's why I knew them. No one needs negative influence :)

Yeah that's the great obstacle when you're friends want you to remain in the state of complaining, instead of doing something about it. But if positive is what works for you that's what you should embrace. :)

As the old proverb goes, who who says he can, and he who says he can't, are both right. :)

Yet another great article. Yet again too long for my current state of mind to read it in one go :)

I am just keeping notes for later:

  • everything in life is your decision,
  • you could be a resident new economy expert for the Venus project :)

More later, I hope. Or tomorrow. I have this project that I must finish tonight.

Thanks for the compliment! Good luck with you project! All the best! :)

Tnx. One last task and I'll be able to deliver the project. Today is the day.

Data preparation for statistical analysis, php and mysql and stuff :)

Some people are happy to live by the rules and conform. I'm with you - I think outside the box. This is far too scary for people to grasp. They think the government is in place to protect us!

yeah, I can't agree more, I just hope they can see that they can just step out sometimes.. But I think with time, good things will happen :)

Well, life is dangerous- it causes death!
