The Trump Administration is Buying Into Blockchain Tech

The first consideration is that Trump is a savvy businessman; he understands how technology impacts finances.

The second consideration is based on the assumption that Trump is out to drain the swamp (although I haven't seen any corruptcrats jailed yet); conducting public business on the blockchain almost guarantees transparency. There are always going to be ways to game a system, but adapting the blockchain makes it sooo much harder to do and easier to catch.

The third consideration is decentralization of power. Trump is a populist, not necessarily a libertarian. I don't even know if this is a consideration as part of this development on the part of his administration.

Following from the third consideration is the possibility that use of blockchain tech could greatly reduce the need for burrocratic staff; this has two benefits:

  • A reduction in the costs of government
  • The mitigation of subversion of government mission by rent-seeking and/or do-gooding agents

What does this mean for the Steem blockchain?

Any dev working based on the Steemit blockchain, not just the devs, should consider apps that pertain to government functions. Steem is just one of the blockchain platforms available.

By providing an option that is already in existence instead of one that has to be developed from scratch, Steem could benefit from being in place when a operational platform is selected or the RFP is put out!

Calabria says:

there's an enthusiasm to see what possible applications exist in government, finance and elsewhere, particularly as the Treasury Department conducts a full review of the financial system.

Some government officials have already started the groundwork in study:

Debbie Bucci, an IT architect at the Department of Health and Human Services, also spoke of her efforts to push for blockchain exploration within her department. Last year, her department issued its first-ever call for white papers on how blockchain technology could be applied in a healthcare setting, and earlier this month it held a blockchain hackathon.

If a Steem functionality exists for some of these services AND IF we are in place when the door is open, the addition of these services to the chain will add to our gravitas, and will provide a legitimacy that other blockchains will not have, thus making it more attractive to new and/or hesitant users!
