Solar powered crowd funded clean energy - the Sun Exchange - crowd funded solar possible?

in #blockchain6 years ago (edited)

This post is to discuss the Sun Exchange. Is this an answer to getting clean power to all? Crowd funded solar?

Introduction:
The Sun Exchange is a company that allows you to buy and lease solar cells to schools and businesses. They arrange monthly lease rental collection and distribution. This post will discuss what they are, how you can join and implications of the clean solar movement. I conclude with asking if we should join it?

Video breakdown on what they are.

Here is one of the projects that is currently open (Nioro Plastics, Cape Town):

Looks like there is less than a month left to join.

The run down:
Basically anyone can send money (via credit card) or crypto to buy solar cells that are leased to companies in the project section of their website. Basically someone that killed it here (steemit) could take some steem and convert to BTC and send to the sun exchange and poof they would be involved. You then are paid monthly in either money or crypto for leasing out these cells for the life of the project. It seems like the more in, the better your returns.

It sounds pretty cool but who is supporting this, is the team good, will they last?

The team:
Seems like a bunch of good people on it including @keiserreport, etc.

By doing the math, I am not sure it is the best return on investment possible. But, that being said it appears to be awesome. Solar power is good. Energy in South Africa is in short supply. Most of it is coal. This proposed work is global. This is peer to peer, this cuts out the middle-people. It is supporting a new digital world and supporting modern technologies. Crowd sourcing solar power sounds cool. There are massive inefficiencies from transport of power so having local, dependable power seems like a cool thing. With a fragile grid, supporting companies that are thinking green (even how green solar is can still be debated), is likely a good thing. We do need to evolve.

I like that solar works in tough to reach places and that you do not need eyesore towers or infrastructure for local small projects.

What do you think about crowd funded solar power?

Is this a good thing?

Would you support it?

Does it work:

Sure looks like a number of projects are up and running. Cool!

Does The Sun Exchange need to post on the steemit account perhaps they have @thesunexchange (hello) to reach a suitable audience?

RSA is awesome so are there any green mambas out there that have any ideas about this?

I heard about this from a mate and seems like this is a good place to share this idea... We have to start someplace right (Re: making the world a better place).
