A state in South India, Kerala, is planning to put the supply chain of every groceries on the blockchain. This project will mainly focus on the supply chain networks including distribution of milk, vegetables and fish in the state using blockchain technology to streamline their supply and demand. The Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC), the think tank of Kerala, will lead the project by implementing the RFID tags and the use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices to monitor transportation.

Dairy sector is one of the biggest consumer sector in India. It provides employment to a great number of people here. A large number of population relies on it for their daily need of milk. K-DISC chairman , K M Araham explained that millions of people will get speedy deliveries of milk when blockchain will continuously monitor production, procurement and distribution of milk.
Every single component of the supply chain will be given a separate ID and it will be recorded on the blockchain to monitor real-time quality of the products as the chain moves further from one step to other. Every step of the chain will be monitored.
Geo-coded images will be used to link the fish-landing spots and farmlands. Real time monitoring and security checks of the goods will be ascertained at every step of the delivery process from the origin ( warehouse and retail centers) to their destinations.

Kerala government will launch an affordable crop insurance scheme for its farmers, which will be based on the blockchain technology. The whole process will be smarter and fool-proof to quickly provide the claims to farmers in case of any natural disaster like flood, drought or storm. The think tank has realized the power of blockchain technology and its efficiency to eliminate the use of any middle persons which are the main culprits to spread the corruption. This new technology will ensure the proper reason of crop losses so that the insurance companies cannot cheat with them. As the data once recorded on blockchain cannot be altered so that companies cannot cheat anyway and no middlemen will be needed in this case.

Kerala has already set up an academy for blockchain education where students learn blockchain solutions which will be mainly implemented in the field of healthcare and banking system.
