Mannabase UBI Blockchain and Free Tokens

I first heard about Mannabase and it's predecessor Grantcoin from a post by @future24 a few weeks back. I've since had a chance to read a bit about them and want to share my discoveries.

The Grantcoin Foundation was set up as a non-profit foundation in the US with the idea of providing Universal Basic Income or UBI to anybody who signs up for it. You can find their mission statement here if you are interested. I've been interested by the possibilities of UBI for a while and have even done some rough calculations of what it would take to make it happen in South Africa. (I think it might be feasible but not with the current administration unfortunately...) Finding out about Grantcoin and now Mannabase is therefore quite exciting. There is a South African version of this idea that had it's ITO recently called Project UBU but I will cover that in another post.

The people behind Grantcoin, or Mannbase as I will refer to them going forward as they are rebranding , have the same gripes with the world as I believe most of us have. The extreme inequality that we see all around us, government and corporate corruption, and the looming spectre of technological unemployment, to name a few. Their solution, which has been piloted in many places by various institutions, is to give money away in the form of Manna tokens to anyone who signs up. Their whitepaper is due for release to the public within the next few weeks and their roadmap aims to have an advanced proprietary blockchain released by the middle of 2019. All in all it seems like a worthwhile project to join and keep an eye on.
