Weekly Summary of QuarkChain AMA on 06/23/2018

in #blockchain6 years ago (edited)

As many of you already know, there is a weekly AMA (ask me anything) on telegram/wechat groups every Saturday, from 7-8 PM PST. The following is the summary for AMA of last week. We are always happy to take feedbacks and answer your questions. See you all on this Saturday!

Part 1: Marketing Questions

  1. Q: I heard that your partnership with Drep has reached a new stage. Can you tell more about this?

A: Yes! We tightened our tie with Drep! Firstly, our CEO and founder, Qi Zhou, has become the advisor of Drep. Secondly, Drep will be providing an exclusive allocation amounting to $600K in Round 1 for QKC token holders to swap their QKC for Drep tokens. You can check more at https://twitter.com/Quark_Chain/status/1009806609646739457

  2. Q:I heard there was a meetup in Shanghai last week. Can I know more details about that?

A: Thanks for the support of our community and the meetup was really a successful one. We will hold more meetups to enhance interaction with fans from all over the world. Our CEO, Qi Zhou, delivered a speech on the applications of high-TPS public chain, which received huge acclaim. Many participants, including Covalent Chain, Bodhi, Tripio, Playtable and Merculent, also discussed how QuarkChain can help them to deploy their projects and showed their confidence in QuarkChain’s development mode and construction of ecosystem.

  3. Q: In terms of security, stability of the QuarkChain ecosystem, can we expect it to be better than Zilliqa when the mainnet releases?

A: You can always find more details about the comparison between Zilliqa and us at https://steemit.com/quarkchain/@quarkchain/10-chanllenging-questions-and-answers-from-quarkchain-in-new-york-consensus
Even though both Zilliqa and QuarkChain use sharding technology, however, we have completed design and implementations. Thus, it is hard to tell which one is better. But we are targeting very high TPS (5,000+) in our public
testnet, which will be available in early July.

  4. Q: Will we have new partners before testnet, or during? Have you reached out to any government organizations for implementation of sharding technologies?

A: For your first question, QuarkChain is continuously having more and more partners. We have announced a lot of partnerships, but some are still in incubating state. It is better to announce them later. For your second question, as long as it doesn’t hurt our decentralized principle, we would collaborate with organizations or companies in the future. Currently, we do not have a plan to actively reach out to government organizations since our focus now is still developing a public chain.

  5. Q: Why the team chose to release private tokens monthly lead to bad altitude for public investors as well as new investors? What does QuarkChain team plan to do to avoid the huge drop in price monthly and encourage new investors?

A: The reason we lock private investors is mainly to protect public sale investors. Some blockchain projects have different lock-up plans. We think this is very common practice in blockchain world. In fact, the reason QuarkChain releases the private tokens monthly is to reduce the big fluctuation of the price and encourage new investors.

  6. Q: Aside from the people here are just interested in the price, does QuarkChain have a community who are inclined about the technical stuff to help improve projects?

A: Currently we have a community of volunteer developers who are testing our testnet. You don’t know them because they all signed NDA. Besides, We are exploring open source opportunities in the future. If you like to join our program, just let us know.

Part 2: Technology Questions

  1. Q: New technology like hashgraph and DAG are emerging, so how will QuarkChain be able to outdo the competition?

A: And the answer to the second question has been listed on https://quarkchain.io/faq.html. Generally speaking, the system of QuarkChain network itself can be treated as a well-structured DAG. This allows QuarkChain to inherit a lot of benefits from both Bitcoin/Ethereum and general DAG technique. For example, the consensus of QuarkChain and its threat model can be easily derived/analyzed following those of Bitcoin/Ethereum, while QuarkChain achieves high throughput. Given two blockchains/DAGs of QuarkChain, we could easily tell which one should be appended according to QuarkChain’s root chain.

  2. Q: It seems there would be different nodes with different roles, all interconnected. How do you plan to prevent them from exploiting the role-playing model? As I understand it, you will manage and audit the network of voluntary nodes, then how do you call it “public blockchain”? Also, sharding doesn’t guarantee the persistence of data, nor completeness of the collection of shards. How do you guarantee longtail operation will be smooth and stable? What if there aren’t enough volunteers to participate?

A: For the first two questions, nodes (machines) trust each other to form a cluster acting as a full node. Anyone can run their own cluster to participate in the network so we don’t manage clusters.

For the third question, there will be data completeness for an individual shard. Sharding and persistence are not mutually exclusive and we don’t understand why you think sharding doesn’t guarantee the persistence of data. All major data stores in Amazon, Facebook and Google use sharding achieve scalability and we are pretty sure persistence is guaranteed.

For the last question, mining is about incentives. We can try to solve the cold start problem by encouraging mining with relative greater incentives at the beginning.

Thank you for reading the summary of AMA on last week! The QuarkChain community appreciates your support!
