How Blockchain technology could be used to fight fake news

in #blockchain6 years ago

Every time I try to explain blockchain technology to someone, I highlight three properties: speed, decentralization, safety.

To explain, in a simple way, how data on the blockchain are safe from hacking or manipulation, I make the example of something that is known by many people; or of a printed book. You can't change the text in a printed book and expect it to be the real text, because there are thousands of copies of that book around that have the original text. And you can't change a news everyone knows (election results, f.i.) and expect to be believed. Spreading around a data is a very good way to keep it safe from falsification.

This premise is to show my idea about how a blockchain can fight fake news. I don't think this is something that can actually be developed tho. It is just an idea.

What I am thinking about is a blockchain where the nodes (the miners, the block producers, the witnesses...) receive a news and handle it checking many reliable news websites in the web, and then validate or falsify it. A news is true/false if a given number of nodes validate/falsify it.

I know, there are problems in this system: first of all the choice about which news websites are reliable. But a News Blockchain could be anyway a useful database for trustworthy news and an useful tool to check the news quickly.

Maybe there is a tool like that already, with no need of a blockchain to be run. I don't know. I just know how important is nowadays to be able to check the news, and how many people have not time or skills to do it themselves.

I'd like to know what experts in Information think about this. And - who knows? - maybe some developers in @utopian could use this idea.

i like your thoughts on this, @paolobeneforti :) it is a very good way to utilizing locked-in data behaviour of the blockchain, for sure !

Thank you for your information and explain, in a simple way, how data on the blockchain are safe. I will follow you @paolobeneforti.
You wish success. @wfuneme

If people were informed before commenting on any news they see on the internet Evitarian false rumors, also know a little about block chain and Cryptocurrencys not bad! The way we go that will be the new business system

We should have a programme that feeds both opposing left right news cycle data into one algorithm and gives us a mix of the two to find the semblance of the truth. The only thing is we might find that both 'sides' of the argument are in fact the same argument meant to keep us at both sides? Who can say.

Interesting idea, though.
