I think there could be some valid concerns about the scalability of Steem. I think right now it may not be scalable.

Steemit, Inc cares about scale, not as much about the existing users. If the platform is built to scale to millions (or billions) of users, it's not as important how many individuals leave along the way. Right now Steem does NOT scale. Sure we talk about the theoretical transaction limits of graphene, but... it takes 12 hours to replay a node? I takes how many GB of RAM to run a witness? What does that go up to when we have 1 million active users (not just 1 million accounts)?" link

Well, I've just been explained to that HF20 will force people to optimize their given resources, which will eventually reduce the number of junks on the platform, and also make those that are hardworking to be easily more noticed and rewarded. But i still think that being a social platform, one still need to joke, play, and have fun with friends
I think it will suck for the new people.
