I.T. Spices The LINUX Way
Python In The Shell: The STEEMIT Ecosystem – Post #85
WHY PYTHON IS BEST FOR THIS

Please refer to the previous post for a more thorough understanding: https://steemit.com/blockchain/@lightingmacsteem/544flu-i-t-spices-the-linux-way
Programs and computer languages each have their strengths and weaknesses, and yet, when it comes to speed and ease-of-understanding I have to go with the Python way.
I am not a programmer by expertise as my line of profession is really in architecting and designing IT Systems, but Python bridged that gap between a “beginner” like me and the ability to solve complex problems.
Let me just state firstly that I am in no way a Python expert, I am just a tinkerer of things “very interesting”, and Python and Bash on the blockchain will be one very interesting playground for good learning.
TIME TO DOWNLOAD THE STEEMIT BLOCKCHAIN FILE
I used the python script below in downloading the STEEMIT blockchain file:

I do not even have to labor myself so much in finding such downloader as many from the STEEMIT community have already done this. The only thing I changed is the full path to the folder as to where I want such file to reside (please see the third line from the very bottom).
For the record the user furion posted such script here: https://www.steembr.com/steem/@furion/store-the-blockchain-in-a-flat-file-with-python
Thank you so much Sir for your nicely done script and sharing it to all of us.
Said python script will download the STEEMIT blockchain and will continue from the last record that it already fetched. One warning though as it is soooooo slow in completing all records, but this is not the main purpose of my topics this time around so I may have to share on other posts how to make downloading much faster.
Our purpose here is for studying and tinkering with the blockchain file, and even with an incomplete blockchain record we can already play around with any formatting and parsing of the JSON file.
If any expert here can help us in advance for a very fast server to get the file please? Thanks in advance.
I will go a little further in the next post as to WHY we really need a database for this exercise and will share why planning is always beneficial in IT solutions, even with our humble study and approaches of the blockchain file.
