Developer Rewards to Ensure Continued Innovation
Additional funding is necessary to ensure the continued competition of PascalCoin relative to other cryptocurrencies. Other cryptocurrencies, such as DASH, have implemented a developer reward to provide this additional funding. It is with this proposal that PascalCoin wishes to implement the same idea of a developer reward so the development of PascalCoin can continue in areas such as layer 1 and 2 protocol development, marketing, exchange listings, and more.
The Proposed Reward
This proposal suggests that the developer reward should consist of 20% of the PASC reward for a successfully mined block. Additionally, the developer reward would also take 20% of the PASA reward; that is, 1 PASA out of the 5 PASA awarded per block. Specifically, account 5 would be taken. The proposal indicates that “even though miners will earn 20% less, the capital gain of the remaining 80% is expected to exponentially exceed the value they would otherwise have, which is fair compensation.” Additionally, it would provide developers with the ability to provide accounts to new users.
SafeBox Change
The standard SafeBox Account Segment X would be modified such that the first account awarded in a block would be rewarded with 80% of the block reward, rounded to 4 decimal places. The developers would then receive 20% of the block reward, rounded to 4 decimal places. The developer key would be fetched by copying the key from account 0–10 rather than by hard-coding it to reduce the potential for “high-risk attack vectors.”
Transparency in Budgets
The proposal includes a section regarding transparency and engagement with the community relating to the usage of any funds collected as the developer reward. The work-flow is copied from the proposal below.
- Developers (and community) propose budgets at any time during the quarter
- Users vote on budget proposals at any time during the quarter
- On first day of the next quarter, the current majority-voted budget is adopted for the quarter
- Goto 1
User votes are counted by setting their Account.Type to the budget number where 1 PASC equals 1 vote and 1 PASA equals 5 votes. While other solutions are possible, it has been deemed that this solution is the most elegant of those available and produces the least amount of conflict and risk. New consensus rules are unnecessary given that consensus is achieved by following the rule proposed whereby a SafeBox hash that is non-compliant would not be in consensus with the majority of the network.
This proposal will incur a hard fork, rendering no backward compatibility.
