The value of cryptocurrency comes from the establishment of the community.
Unlike any fiat or stock, cryptocurrencies have no government backups or their intrinsic values. Their values come from the establishment of communities. The cryptocurrency with strong community backup (such as steem) would have its value.
Currently I would say that they all get their value from the perception of bitcoin on any given day.
In the long term though you should be right. So coins like steem have a big advantage going forward.
