Sunny King makes rare appearances because he is always diligently monitoring and developing his blockchain creations. As time goes on, it becomes quite apparent that Proof-of-Work is an energy consuming method to verify trustless transactions that only has finite reasons to use it.
While it is true, Peercoin uses Proof of Work to fairly distribute its initial coins, the chain itself is secured by Proof-of-Stake. At the early onset of Bitcoin, Sunny King found there was a much better, less expensive way, to secure blockchains, and he released his creation prior to anyone realizing the need for it.

For those that don't know. Sunny King is incredibly inspirational and is extremely smart. His primecoin invention broke multiple world records for the longest prime number.
Oddly enough, he builds things we don't need today.
