Are you an optimist or pessimist?

Every so often I am presented with the optimist/pessimist/realist debate.

I discovered the term techno-optimism recently.

Consider the chart above.

If you accept the validity of the theory of the chart, note the area in red and guess how many generations it will be before we are out of danger of extinction.

This is why techno-optimism seems irrelevant to me.

Sure, we may one day reach techno-paradise, but only if we do not fall into an Orwellian or Huxleyan trap.

With dramatic losses in personal liberties, government control of media, militarized police forces, and the corruption of the global monetary system, we are moving dangerously toward this outcome.

Ultimately I believe the free, awake and aware people of the world will unite and rise up against this oppressive system to destroy it, or at least contain it.

But right now, alone and collectively, we are each in a struggle to prevent our own extinction, and in consideration of the chart above, it will be this way for generations to come.

As we look back at changes we have seen over recent decades past, truly today we already live in a "science fiction" future, and yes, there is much more wonderment and horror ahead.

Let's not forget the horrors technology brings.

It seems to me and I think all will agree we have a very rocky road with many extinction perils still ahead.

This TED lecture presents another idea from the perspective of an Amish woman.

I believe the point is that it's the low-tech solutions that really matter, things like a gold backed monetary system, and independent yet interdependent sustainable homesteading.

Blockchain is truly the revolutionary new discovery behind most all the radical change that will take place in the years ahead.

Blockchain, peer-to-peer networks, and open source are the backbone for our greatest changes ahead.

Crypto-currency is only a product of blockchain, and there are many more such revolutionary products to come.

It is open for debate how many more years we have ahead, and what we should do about it.

I don't know who created the chart, but as always, it's just one man's (or government's?) opinion. Highly questionable and speculative.

We may create a better society using technology, but the main point is that people's perspective has to change.

From being down-trotten and working primarily for the establishment, causing a situation where we're all dependent on wages, the state or other forms of income/survival, we need to get a grip and rebuild everything.

Money should not be the primary goal, but a means. However for this to happen a dramatic mind change has to take place, and the powers that be will fight this every step of the way.

Be it a blockchain-bases currency or a gold-backed currency, in the end someone wants to control it, and be the top of the heap.

I'm not overly optimistic on great changes in the near future, it could be many decades before we finally change something real.
