Storage of Digital Data/Information

Data and Information are one of the core ingredients of the information age. It is true that there abound an avalanche of vital information resources on the internet, however it remains surprising that there are no long term means of securing and storing this vital knowledge and resources on the internet. Natural disasters like fire outbreaks can destroy information stored in places like museums, libraries etc. Information kept on the internet lives at the mercy of the servers that host websites.

Owners and administrators of the servers that keep or host information and data on the internet can decide to restrict access to their servers or even compromise these resources (data/information) on their server; this doesn’t indicate a safe means of safeguarding and storing information at all. Moreover, the life cycle of websites that live on servers are being sustained by paid funds, hence when the funds are no longer available, the information and data contained on these sites will no longer be available to us again.

Blockchain Technology
The blockchain technology is a decentralized ledger network that stores and monitors transactions of various types. This technology has indeed made significant impact on various industries and sectors of life. With respect to storing of digital information, blockchain technology has displayed some form of weaknesses. These weaknesses include: high cost of storing data, difficulty in implementing permanent storage systems and compromised modification of data via storage facility in some blockchain technologies.

Introducing Arweave
Arweave is a blockchain technology that prides itself with the motto “storage first”- which has really helped it to develop and implement a blockchain network where long term and low cost storage is obtained. This has helped to improve the high throughput performance on cryptocurrency.
This blockchain technology is designed in such a manner that once information is cryptographiocally stored on its facility, any other attempt made to alter the same document would be countered / rejected by the network. Developers can build apps ranging from decentralized social networks to discussion websites that can interface and use data from the Arweave’s network using RESTful APIs. To submit data to the Arweave system, tokens will be required and these tokens will be used to pay miners for maintaining the network. This blockchain technology (Arweave) that offers permanent storage is built on four core innovative technologies namely: Blockweave, Proof of Access, Blockshadows and Wildlife.

Blockweave: Arweave offers two new concepts that allow nodes to perform their essential task without taking over the whole chain. The two concepts are the block hash list and wallet list.
The block hash list allows old blocks to be validated and incoming new blocks evaluated efficiently while wallet list includes a list of all active list on the system.

Proof of Access: Arweave’s consensus algorithm incorporates Proof of Access- which uses data from a randomly chosen previous block to generate each successive block.
Wildlife: Since Arweave is a long term blockchain data storage system, it ensures that access to the large amount of data on its system is done in the most convenient and fast form.

Its wildlife technology provides fast or rapid data request fulfillment on its platform.

Blockshadows: Its blockshadows technology allows rapid block consensus and massive transaction throughput on its ecosystem.

Arweave's token sale was a huge success and has been concluded. We now look forward to the full development and launch of the mainnet in the coming months.
