Moscow To Use Ethereum Blockchain In Public Vote Platform

Sometimes, blockchain adoption news comes from the most unbelievable places, in the most peculiar forms. For instance, Moscow - yes, that Moscow, main city of Russia - announced it will launch a blockchain-based project to help in local elections.

It's not an isolated project, it's part of a bigger platform, called Active Citizen. It even has its own Github repository which seems quite active. From the looks of it, this project may come in the form of smart contracts on top of the Ethereum blockchain, using Parity.

The end of the press release is relatively epic, in terms of blockchain praise:

If recognized as successful, then it can be replicated to other IT projects in Moscow, used in the city economy and the city as a whole. The technology of blockchain can be implemented everywhere, where high data reliability is required: in the economy and finance, in transactions with tangible and intangible assets, in the accounting system in public and private organizations.

(part of it was translated with Google translate, so excuse the obvious blunders).

I wouldn't draw any parallel between this news and the rather bellicose comments of Putin when it comes to cryptocurrencies.

That quoted paragraph from the press release is quite epic, and somewhat mirrors what I was thinking this morning about how blockchain technology will reveloutionize how we do everything in the future and all of the different ways it could be used. I may post on these ideas in the future.

Thank you @dragosroua !

Good article! It seems the blockchain is slowly making its way into all aspects of life and that could be a great thing.
Also, I just want to say a big THANKS for making the steem.supply! It is something I use almost every day!
Thanks!

Why are you surprised that this news comes from Moscow? I see Russia as a pioneer country in Blockchain development.

Many valuable blockchain startups are coming from Russia, that's very true. But the public sector and the political message were always a bit cold towards blockchain.

yes, I guess you are right... same thing happened in Venezuela where they send miners to jail and then decide to create their own cryptocurrency..

My thoughts exactly...

I think it is kind of surprising not because of the country itself, but because of that particular government.

There must be something fishy somewhere because it sounds to good to be true.

They may have the best intentions in the world, who knows. I'm just surprised it came from that specific spot: public sector.

Best intention for themselves ( i.e the people in power) :))

See, this way the elections can't be hacked...

I wouldn't be surprised if politicians are to exploit potential security issues in order to modify election results to their favor.

That happened, still happens and will continue t happen for as long as humans will live, it's just human nature, it has nothing to do with technology.

Here are the good days coming for cryptocurrencies.

This could revolutionise the whole system
