More than 2,000 people have registered on Dether.io for the past two months to be the first to try Dether’s mobile application. Today, we’re thrilled to announce the release of Dether’s alpha along with the first Dether challenge

What can you expect from Dether’s alpha?

Dether’s alpha runs on Ethereum Kovan testnet (so please don’t send any ether to your Dether wallet). The process will guide you smoothly from the the creation of your wallet, to your first transaction:

Create a Dether wallet, save your backup phrase, create a password and choose an avatar. Your private key is encrypted and stored on your device

Fund your Dether wallet if you wish to become an ether seller and appear on the Dether map. For Dether’s alpha , you can fund your wallet using the “Get Kovan” faucet button on your Dashbord so you can easily register as a seller on the map

Find sellers around you via the Dether map

Safely and anonymously chat with potential sellers via Telegram and schedule an appointment in order to make a transaction

Make a successful transaction secured by Dether smart contracts, and automatically obtain a better reputation!

As you might have understood, no real ether is being exchanged between users in Dether’s alpha version, but instead, Kovan test ethers.

What’s so special about Dether’s alpha?

No backend is used, only Ethereum smart contracts!

Users’ funds are never held by any central entity.

Private keys are encrypted and locally stored in the user’s wallet.

Conversations between users are fully anonymous and encrypted.

Users’ reputation is powered by Ethereum smart contracts.

Is it available on iOS? Android?

Both. Dether’s alpha is a progressive web app (PWA) available on both iOS (using Safari) and Android (using Chrome).

How can you participate in the First Dether Challenge?

1. Register as a seller on the Dether map and trade with us

Everyday, starting from today to October 8th, we’ll randomly select sellers on the Dether map. You’ll have 10 minutes to answer in order to trade (Kovan ethers) with us. Just like if it was a real transaction with a real buyer. Sellers will be selected in a different country for every pick and everyday. They will be contacted from 9am to 8pm in their timezone. In order to be selected, your Telegram address used to chat with buyers must be registered on only one point of sale on the Dether map.

By the end of the week, sellers that were contacted by the Dether team and who made a successful transaction will all win the equivalent of $50 in ether. Winners will be announced everyday on the Dether’s Slack (channel # Dether_Challenge).

This first challenge is a way for users to get early insight into Dether’s development and to provide feedback. As its name would imply, Dether’s alpha is an experiment. It’s a great opportunity for you to get your hands on a groundbreaking product built on top of Ethereum blokchain.
