Hive Power - The Crucial Ingredient to Decentralized Energy

At Blockshow in Europe, Block 20 Report Agent Neutron was able to catch up with Hive Power CEO, Gianluca Corbellina about their decentralutionary project.

Energy, in the form of electricity is the hallmark of modern civilization. Without it, we are literally in the dark ages. As solar panels and off-grid technology has scaled and become cheaper and cheaper, we see more individuals, and communities generating their own power.

Tesla’s Solar City, which is yet to fully launch, will usher in a new era of cheap, reliable and locally sourced power. Instead of selling the excess off back to a power company (at usually really low rates), Hive Power allows an energy producer to effectively and easily sell their power to neighbors. Built into the blockchain and token based system are a variety of features that allow producers to reward users, and create incentives for participating in the off-grid power sharing.

When asked about the team driving the technology, CEO Corbellina makes it quite clear:

We are a spin-off of the Swiss University of Applied Science… with seven years experience working with smart grid technology… we have already tested a decentralized approach to energy management in other projects… We are all engineers and very practical people not marketers or just [writing] white papers.

With pilot projects lined up to use Hive Power in Switzerland, Sweden and Germany – this technology is poised to become the go-to for off-grid communities in Europe, and soon. And yes, we are looking forward to introducing this tech to Elon Musk and Solar City!
