Wolfsburg-based carmaker Volkswagen confirms its involvement in the crypto sector and is committed to blockchain. They are currently working at full speed to make the technology for customers to experience, according to the latest blog post of the group. Currently, the Group is involved in the development of three concrete applications for distributed ledger technologies.
The potentials of the blockchain are far beyond the possibilities of cryptocurrencies. Now you want to use these and "bring the Blockchain on the road". This is the message that the German automobile giant Volkswagen (VW) recently announced on its website.
In June, the Wolfsburg had already presented the first steps in the crypto sector at CEBIT and presented a pilot project with the Berlin-based company IOTA. This is to put the transfer of car software on a secure footing.
Now VW confirms its commitment in the blockchain field. The company's website states that they are currently working hard to make the technologies "available to customers".
Accordingly, there would be more and more usage potential for the blockchain, from car maintenance, corporate logistics and specialized problem solving. Across departments, more than 300 employees would be busy with new applications.
Especially on the topic of autonomous driving, the Blockchain is still considered "rich in opportunities," said Nicolai Bartkowiak from the IT department of the Group.

Now the Wolfsburg want to expand their initiative in the crypto sector. Blockchain technology offers enormous potential, especially for new business areas. For this reason, Volkswagen AG and its subsidiaries are testing possible technology applications in three specific cases.
For example, they are currently developing an automated odometer that will save kilometers driven on a block chain and thus make manipulation more difficult. Such a blockchain tachometer can make the used vehicle market more transparent, they say.
In addition, Group division Porsche, as BTC-ECHO reported in February, is now working on a blockchain-based virtual encryption system for vehicles. This should not only protect against hackers but also make them independent of the traditional key.
The Volkswagen subsidiary Volkswagen Financial Services in the UK is currently testing a blockchain solution for charging stations. For example, gas stations would be easier to get into business with electric car owners.
In addition, the Wolfsburg are open to enter into further cooperation and use different platforms - regardless of which home the technology came from, concludes the blog post.
IOTA and the German economy
In addition to the partnership with VW, the Berlin-based start-up IOTA has managed to gain a huge foothold in the gates of German corporations over the past year. IOTA is optimistic. By the end of 2018 they hope to be able to present the first strategies for a market launch of the Tangle systems.
