Guideline: How to research a coin the right way! DYOR

in #blockchain6 years ago

Hello Steemians,

in my first post I wanted to show you how I research a coin, because I think a lot of people have problems to follow a proper guidline how to get the information they need to know.

The quantitative way

First I would start with:

  • How much is the marketcap?
  • How much is the circulating supply?
  • How much is the total supply? (Check the difference between these two)
  • Research how the inflation is over time
  • Check the distribution of the coin/token (rich list https://bitinfocharts.com/)
  • How did the price change over time? (ATH, ATL, how did the price moved compared to bitcoin)
  • Where can I get the coin? (Exchanges, Volume)
  • How works the reward system ? (consensous method)

The qualitative way

  • What is the use case for the coin/token?
  • If it is a token, is the token really necessary to run the network?
  • Which market want the coin/token to disrupt?
  • Check the whitepaper (technical aspects and all the important information)
  • Who is the team? (Check them back , linkedin, facebook, twitter, google)
  • Who are the developers? (Blockchain experience, Github, references)
  • Who sits on the team of advisors?
  • Do they have any significant partnerships?
  • How did they deal with milestones/roadmap?
  • Check their telegram group, twitter feed, subreddit, bitcointalk or any other social media plattform
  • Check back if they have an organic following (www.socialblade.com)
  • What is to come? (confirmed events, milestones, key dates)

This is my way how I research different coins. Of course you can add some things like if you are a programmer always check their github and look at the code. In the end it is really important that you do your own research, because their are some many paid posts and wrong statements about what token can or cannot do.

Always try to find and make your own points! If you have any specific questions don´t hesitate to contact the founders of the the project, a good way for example is to join the telegram group and ask your questions. If it is a legit project they will answer :)

If I missed something please comment below. I hope it helps!
