Making tofu is one of the traditional handicrafts in China, and the old saying goes: 25th, Lunar December , time to grind Tofu; winter ends and spring comes, but why the traditional people make Tofu on Lunar 25th the December? And what’s the meaning and moral of this tradition?

Actually making Tofu on Lunar, 25th, the December means the starting of preparation of New Year. Fu in Tofu is homophony of Fu in XingFu (Happiness), thus tofu is a symbol of praying happiness.

It’s researched that tofu was invented in West Han Dynasty by Liu An, the Huainan King. Zhu Xi, the Confucian in South Song Dynasty, mentioned in his poem "Tofu", "The seeds of peas are sparse, and the heart is rotten. If you know Huainan skill earlier, life will be easier".
