TrustED is a Blockchain Platform for Verification of Professional Qualifications
The provision of accurate information regarding professional qualifications is fundamental when applying for a job. Given the current state of economy and job market, a thorough background check should include credential and academic verification. A blockchain platform TrustED will create a public service with respect to the verification of educational credentials. Two main assumptions underlie the functionality of the platform: First, practices and policies regarding the educational documents reported by the applicants represent a room for improvement, and second, verification process involves third party services in all cases, such as external examiner who will review the documents. Thus, pursuant to its goal, TrustED will make it unnecessary to contact educational institutions directly. This might be a particular advantage with regard to a foreign proof of professional certification.
Platform architecture and components
The Stakeholder Management Component comprises tools to manage user profile, digital wallet and profile security. Correspondingly, Stakeholder Management will store data on credential holders as well as credential issuers. Academic institutions can issue credentials for their graduates. In addition, institutions can also verify pre-uploaded documents as well. For this, they first need approval by the government units. Credential holders, in turn, should go through the KYC procedure, create their personal account and upload documents. At the initial stage, neither credential holders nor issuers will be charged for any verification process.
Data Pool Component includes Trust ID Pool, Wallet and Payment Pools, as well as Credential Data and Profile Pools. Trust ID Management is connected to the KYC Verification Manager in order to confirm a valid status of the user. In addition, TrustED can be used as a cloud storage for educational documents. In this case, there is no need to verify certificates as third parties can view these documents for free. Once the verification process has taken place, a fee will be required.
Credential Management Component is designed to conduct credential uploads and retrieval from the Data Pool Component. Any verification process will be conducted using the Credential Management interface as well.
Operational data flow and control
Verification requesters can be presented with verified credentials of applicants for free. The operational flow will start as soon as a request for information has been received. The system will further address the issue to the educational institution in question for verification. The TrustED Admin Portal can contact an institution as well. Nevertheless, the system will be able to manage all requests automatically having at its disposal institution and candidate databases. Payments in fiat will be acceptable alongside TED tokens, stakeholders, however, will be charged a 10% fee when paying in fiat. This pattern of data flow should become a base standard.

TrustED addresses the topic of verification of educational credentials. The platform will create an alternative approach to credential authentication in which verification is performed automatically. Verification procedure exists in order to ensure that the applicant meet certain criteria and has not misrepresent the qualifications. The most common practice is to request request that applicants provide proof of their degrees including letters from the educational institutions to ensure that candidates completed a course. More rigorous procedures may involve providing documentations showing eligibility for certification, attested copies of degrees, etc. It is necessary to involve a trusted system to confirm that the applicants aren’t misrepresenting their identity and qualifications. The ultimate value of the project as implied by its principle idea will be largely dependent on the level of participation among educational institutions.
