Fortune - Ethereum’s Shanghai upgrade will dump huge sums of Ether into the market. Here’s everything you need to know

According to Jim McDonald, CTO of Attestant, a London-based staking firm, Ethereum prices are expected to plummet immediately after the Shanghai upgrade.

This is because nearly 18 million (about 15% of all ETH in circulation) of what is known as "Staked ETH" will be unlocked.

However, institutions are also expected to participate, as this upgrade will allow them to add and remove funds at will.
