The immediate catalyst was dissatisfaction with Steemit.. This is their prime motivation. They created a new social network because Steemit failed them. well it's up to them now not to fail themselves.

Actually I like it that steemit is not so much group oriented and so diverse. If you enter a certain group with an exclusive interest in something or other you, if you share your ideas you are basically preaching to the choir. Steemit allows me to widen my horizon a bit.
True that. I hate the herd instinct that rules a lot of networks.
I wouldn't call it herd instinct, but I've seen a lot of demands for conformity in groups, expressing ideas outside the group consensus gets you easily stigmatized and bullied.
I left a couple of cool social media projects because of that. I don't like boxes/cages
me neither, except for soapboxes to stand on top of :)
