Are you ready for social media on the blockchain?
Is Social Media ready for the Blockchain?
The more important question is are YOU ready for social media on the blockchain? Are you ready to leave your censored bubble where the only news you see is news that the platform knows you’ll agree with?
Are you ready to grow up and away from the stultifying comfort of the money machines that masquerade as social media? Are you ready to actually own and earn from the content you create?
OK, at this point you may have a frown on your face and the question racing to your lips is “What the hell is she on about?”
Think about Facebook, what content does it create? The correct answer, in case you were stumped is…none.
Who creates the content on Facebook? YOU do. Who makes the money from your content on Facebook? NOT YOU. Facebook shareholders make the money, you know, like Mark Zuckerberg who already has more than he can possibly need and, who doesn’t seem to care overmuch if people post misleading or fake news. You know, the sort of thing that earns them mega bucks and leaves you a little worried and often confused.
There’s an alternative you know, one that allows you to stay in touch with all you contacts on existing social media, still share your posts with them AND will pay you to do just that.
Ong Social is more than a social media site, it’s a social dashboard as well, one that allows you to post to multiple other profiles with one click. It’s a friendly community with, as far as I’ve seen so far very little to no trolling.
It’s based on blockchain technology, similar to Steemit, but they also have a mechanism to filter out fake news and hate news. Just as with most social media sites you can ‘like’ a post, but you also get to vote on posts, the more upvotes a post gets, the more it’s trusted. If, on the other hand it gets more downvotes then it’s less trusted, but here’s the thing, the platform doesn’t hide them from you, it tells you that a post lacks trust but treats you like an adult and allows you to make up your own mind.
What Do You Mean? Earn Money?
Now let’s talk about advertising, I’m sure you know that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube sell advertising. Because they know so much about you and sell that information to others, advertisers can very tightly target their adds. So they make more money than they would from say a newspaper or TV ad. This is because with newspapers and TV, they broadcast to everyone who’s reading/watching. On Facebook and the like they don’t. There, they can decide where their ad is shown geographically, the age, sex and marital status. They can target you by income, job, sexual preference, whether you love cats or dogs.
There are so many ways that they can target you that it’s quite disturbing, nothing random happens because it’s all geared to making them (not you) money.
Contrast that with Ong Social, they sell advertising and share the revenue with you. Let me repeat that, they sell advertising and share the revenue with YOU.
Now there may be times when you don’t want your content to have ads and that’s fine, because with Ong Social you get to choose. You also get to choose the sort of ads you’re happy to have alongside your content, the flip side is you can say no to certain ads too.
The coin you get paid in is onG, but what if you don’t want that? They still have you covered, you can even get paid in fiat money.
You can have a free account, which gives you everything you need to earn, if you’re in the business of online marketing, there are paid accounts that give you more tools to run your business, promote it on multiple platforms and oh yes, still earn money from that content!
How do you filter out "hate" news and not have it be censorship?
Not allowing illegal content is not the same as censorship.
Defining something at hate doesnt make it illegal.
Illegal content is breaking copyright laws or videos where crimes are committed.
Just because what someone does is filled with hate does not make it illegal.
As far as I have heard they planned to mark hateful users as trolls and people have the option to mute trolls. At least thats what I heard on the topic. Seems more like a voluntary censorship.
Turn the channel
For me, it's about a 'crowd conscience' I guess. If hateful content is ignored, there's less incentive to post more.
That could well be true although hate has a huge following. The old saying one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. People have all kinds of perspectives, some pretty outrageous. Sadly, watching the evening news and they promote the negativity. All turn to the political shows and you see the bomb throwers on there.
What is really interesting is that no matter how far out a view is, the people who believe it feel justified in their views and there is usually a following.
Yes, but hopefully if enough people downvote, it won't get automatically shared by everyone, which is I think a problem on Facebook. People share based on headlines and who posted it. that gives it a wider audience than it would otherwise get.
