Virginia bitcoin mining operation The Butterfly Labs has announced the start of a new bitcoin mining operation.

The start of this operation comes after the Bitcoin Foundation announced plans to expand their mining operation from 20 to 100 GH/s by the end of 2019. The foundation announced the launch of their first full bitcoin mining rig in September 2017, named "The Genesis Block" which was built with the help and guidance of CEX.io, which was a Bitcoin mining pool.

The Genesis Block is powered by a custom-made ASIC device called Gemini powered by Bitcoin Unlimited. Bitcoin Unlimited is the largest bitcoin network project in operation and is based on bitcoin's original code and design.

BitFury, the world's first mining pool to deploy its own bitcoin mining rigs, also recently announced a large expansion of their global operation. The mining pool announced with the announcement that they would deploy 50 new bitcoin bitcoin mining rigs soon
