Test-drive some LINKS into the Decentralized Future?

in #blockchain6 years ago (edited)

There’s nothing like new tech to give old webtimers a new lease of life. I’m still recovering from the beauty of seeing my digital stuff appearing on all my devices without even hitting a Save button (or transfering to a keydisk first). The magic of the cloud. To be fair, the web has come a long way and centralisation has brought speed and continual updates that enables us - appear even - to master our lives. Or work from home even, in our pyjamas.

But the winds of change are blowing again. The next web is coming, and it's looking more of a decentralised one.

So then...

LINKS and RESOURCES

for stepping into a wider, decentralised world... MARCH 2018+
(work in progress)

This is for my own reference/research, as I try and move with the times; a quicklist of resources into a new web. I aim to update this randomly over time. Hope it helps you guys too.

Social Media, Photos and Video

  • Steemit ! - with its unique tipping, voting and earning system, you can earn Steem, Steem Power or Steem Dollars. It's important to learn the difference, plus some rules of thumb. Also find a long-term place to store your image files. You can try http://www.steemimg.com/ - but there's room for improvement here. You might just use your Wordpress library, if you got one.

  • Steepshot - the instagram of Steem, linked to your Steemit etc. account. The @steepshot team have done a great job.

  • Yours.org - earn bitcoin cash for posting

  • dTube - video platform

  • dLive - live video broadcasting. Use Steem account option to connect.

  • dMania - funny pics and vids

To watch: narrative.network and Mithril

Crypto Trading including DEX plus Market Resources/Tools

  • Waves platform - wallet, exchange and tool to release tokens

  • BitShares

  • InvestFeed - NY-based social platform and stock tracker for crypto traders with its own tokens.

  • Altpocket - portfolio tracker and social platform. no tokens.

  • Blockfolio (etc!) - one of the many app to track portfolio and prices of coins. Once you get used to input of prices it gets easier. You need to have traded in order to use the app.

  • Coinmarketcap - a clear choice for coin charts

  • Coingecko - great for price converting, plus charts

  • NewsNow - breaking crypto news

  • Cryptopanic.com - breaking news just for crypto. Sign in and you can add watchlist, notications, night or day mode. It allows you to rank the news if you think it's going to affect prices. Cool.

Wallets

  • myEtherWallet - crude but fast access to all erc20 tokens supported

  • Exodus - easy desktop wallet with proper interface, built-in shapeshift exchange and growing coin support including ERC20 tokens
Exodus status - check the status of operations
Exodus coin support - full list of current and planned coins that are supported.

  • Ledger etc. hardware wallets - for 'safest' storage.

Internet....

  • Brave browser - cuts down on ads and incorporates use of BAT and NANO via Twitch.

  • Blockstack - ambitious project for decentralised browser, apps n stuff

  • Status - A mobile ethereum OS and messenger

File Storage.....

  • Storj - file sharing and storage. Download the client. You can also get paid for sharing your own space/hard drive.
This is going to be great, but it’s early stages.

  • Siacoin - also like above

Shopping

  • OpenBazaar - ebay-style. client download for selling directly with bitcoin etc. should improve.

  • Cryptonize.it - not got my head around this one yet but looks ok!

Gaming

coming soon!

Music

  • dSound - steem-based sound-sharing platform resembles Soundcloud. Log-in with Steem account option.

  • Opus - ethereum/ipfs-based not ready yet

  • Ujo Music - not ready yet

FUTURE PROJECTS TO WATCH

Hedera Hashgraph - supposedly going to replace blockchain when it gets going.
