"The Artist" | Stardew Valley 3d Fan Art

Hello!
Guess who's back, AGAIN. After months of Blender-ing several projects I still haven't finished any of them. New ideas always came faster than I can delete the default cube. This time I want to share one of my early creations that I'm happy with the result that was made in a very unstable software in unstable hardware, by a somewhat stable person. 

Do you see what I'm saying here?

Hopefully I can share my other artworks real soon. This one is a fanart but the others are my original characters that I try to finish as game-ready characters. Anyway, for now, I present to you "The Artist"!


The Artist

This is a fan art of the delightful game Stardew Valley. This is Leah, a talented artist who's too nervous to show off her art skill. She came to the valley to escape her stupid ex and "normal city life" where she could not pursue her dream as an artist.

The best part is the player can help Leah to grow as an artist and punch her douchebag ex in the face just because there's that option in the game.

I love how one of the player's options to help her can indirectly helps the town as well. The player can either suggest her to hold an art show in town, or sell her art pieces online. By choosing the former, it'll boost her confidence and make the town to become an art destination.

As usual, I always start with a subdivided cube and start sculpting from the head from there. I could have used the skin modifier to create the base body for easier sculpting process, but I prefer to sculpt everything from scratch. 

On the 6th stage you might notice her face changes. I re-proportioned her head because a few hours in I realized how horrendous her face was. I used Multires modifier to add the little details such as the cloth wrinkles on the low-poly clothes that would otherwise look bland.


Her suspenders is neither X back nor Y back. It's Leah back.

In the game, Leah presumably wears a crop top with suspenders and jeans. Since there's not much detail can be seen--or drawn--in the pixel-art version, the fun part is to put a little bit of your own imagination to determine what she look like in 3d without losing the character's original identity. Like her shoes for example, I'm not sure if they're supposed to be knee-high or ankle-high, but in the end, I went with the latter.

Hah I knew i wasn’t the only person who started by turning the cube into a head 😆 a friend of mine seemed to think I was doing it wrong because everyone they know smashes primitives together and refines that.

I can't think of another way of making a head but using the cube. If it works for you, then it's not wrong, am I right? ^^
