Blender Practice - Steemit GIF
Hey everyone. I realized recently that I haven't been spending as much time practicing Blender modelling / animations as I usually do -- probably because I've been swept up in cryptos / steemit / decentraland / work.
I got inspired earlier, and decided I wanted to try making an animation with a couple different effects / physics you can use in blender.
Using the current version of Blender (2.79) -- Here's a quick summary of what's going on:
-Marble floor texture (diffuse, roughness, normal and displacement) from CGtextures.com
-Simple shaders using blenders awesome new principled shader. Each text object is set to transmission, with a bit of roughness so it's not entirely transparent.
-Rigid bodies for the floor, and two text objects.
-Quick effect "explosion" on the 'reddit' text.
-Fluid sim on a secondary 'steemit' mesh, with an offset of -110 frames so it starts later.
-A couple of keyframes to make the falling 'steemit' and melting 'steemit' (dis)appear at the appropriate times.
-Rendered at 50% 1920x1080 - 500 samples.
Generally, I had fun with this. I've got a couple ideas for things to do, to refresh myself with Animation Nodes, Manuel Bastioni Lab, and some other stuff. Stay tuned!
Does anyone else like Blender? I wonder if we could get something collaborative happening on here. Keep creating!
EDIT: Hahahaha I forgot to upload the gif. What a dumb dumb.
Nice, I haven't really used Blender but it looks very handy - is it a web service or a download app? Calling @OriginalWorks can be hit and miss, they seem to like the capitals - I believe you can also call it in post using !OriginalWorks but don't quote me on that
Ah I didn't know that. I'll try it out in-post next time.
Blender is a download app -- and one of the best, free, open-source projects out there. It has improved greatly over the last few years for 2D/3D modelling and animation, VFX, and video editing. Check out their website if you feel like giving it a shot. Lots of great resources on youtube (haven't browsed through dtube much yet) for learning basics, and advanced stuff.
Thanks, I will give it a try.
