why this black square is art?
The "black square" by Kazimir Malevich, is a painting from 1915, and is one of the most important and famous art works of all time?
So how does a simple geometric shape painted in black is so precious and meaninful??
this is a actually a question I have been asking myself a lot as art student...this is a question about abstraction in general...
one of the possible answers is because in the 19 century, some big changes happened in the world: the industrial revolution, the world wars and the development of the camera...
after you have a camera, people didnt see the point anymore in representing the world as it is, and tried to express themeselves in different ways.
the abstraction wave came in many different styles and gradually but the black squre is known as the icon of abstraction because its almost as pure as it can get.
also its always better to be infront of a painting in order to understand it better
