SEOUL -- K-Pop group Blackpink is making history in the world music industry again. The group consisting of Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose released the long-awaited second studio album Born Pink on Friday (16/9/2022) at 13.00 South Korean time.

Reporting from Soompi and Gebrak, Saturday (17/9/2022), the new work of the group formed by YG Entertainment immediately shot to the top of music charts in countries around the world, both songs and albums.

According to Hanteo Chart, Born Pink sold 1,011,266 copies as of September 16, 2022. That figure makes Born Pink the first album by any female artist in history to sell more than one million copies on its first day of release.

Blackpink also became the artist with the third-highest first-day sales overall, only surpassed by K-Pop groups BTS and Seventeen. In addition, Born Pink managed to almost double Blackpink's own sales record of 589,310 based on the previous album, The Album, in 2020.

True to its title, this new album depicts the self-confidence of the four members who were unique from the start. This album will deeply depict the team's discography with its unique musical color," said the YG Entertainment agency as reported by Yonhap News.

Blackpink's latest album has eight songs, including the title single Shut Down and the pre-release song Pink Venom. Shut Down contains samples of La Campanella composed by Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840), a legendary 19th-century Italian violinist and composer, combined with trendy hip-hop beats.

The other six songs are Typa Girl, Hard to Love, The Happiest Girl, Tally, Ready For Love, and Yeah Yeah Yeah. The songs are 1980s style with Jisoo and Rose participating in writing the lyrics.
