Old-School Retailers Stumble Into Holiday Spending Weekend
It will be a while before we see the Black Friday results but all indications are that retailers should be very happy.
Online sales were booming in spite of some retailers having issues with their online sites. At the same time, foot traffic in malls was similar to last year, if not up a little.
People are watching the start of the holiday shopping season closely trying to get a feel for how strong the consumer is. With many warnings about recession being bantered about, a strong consumer can silence that quickly.
Retailers depend upon their 4th quarter numbers to make their year. A strong holiday season helps this sector a great deal.
Without having clear numbers, the feedback is that the stores are off to a good start.
