Today we practised different set ups to take the back and end with a rear naked choke.

As I mentioned in my last post I often feel overwhelmed and just want to remember one detail or technique.

What I have learned today :

Before I often had problems that one arm got trapped and I could not finish the choke. I have to pay attention that my arms slides in through close to the neck. Even when he is strong and blocking the neck I can just go to the nose and get pressure there to lift his head and expose his neck and get my other arm in. I can do this multiple times till I get a tight grip on his neck.

Where I had problems:

Still, my arm got trapped quite often. I have to pay attention I am staying close to his face and have some speed and strength in my movement.

One another note

I have booked 4 private hours which I will take next week. I think I will do 2 every week so I have some time to decide what I want to work on. At the moment I am thinking I want to spend 2 on some submissions from the guard as I can get people in full guard quite often but then I dont really have an idea what to do. 1 one pulling guard and 1 on escapes.

I know my focus as a white belt should be survival but you can not tell me you did not wanted to tap people also, when you were a white belt.

But I am very open for suggestions from some more experienced people here. I just want to make the best out of it as it was quite expensive.

Sort:

so hardcore! I find taking private lessons always helps me improve quickly in any skill I'm working on.

I really hope they will be worth it. It is around 60$ an hour.

I am almost embarrassed to admit I paid this much....

Yeah, it's pretty expensive for private lessons at most bjj schools. Mine is $35 per half hour.

did you took some? if yes was it worth it in your opinion? I will know next week, already excited

Yes, I do one private lesson per week at my school. I find that the one on one time with an instructor allows you to receive a better level of instruction. I couldn't always afford it, but now that I can, I take advantage of one on one private lessons with 2 different bjj instructors.

LOL. I'm sure it will be! :) Keep me posted on the progress.

I use to pay that much for horse back-riding and I did it twice a week. It was so worth it though! Never regretted it :)

I suggest looking into how the Danaher Death Squad (especially Gordon Ryan) does their setups. They trap the arm opposite your choking arm with a hooking leg. Ironically one of the pioneers of this setup is Marcelo Garcia.
