I'm not sure, but I've always gone through coinbase with Bitcoin. I thought you had to start with Bitcoin, but I could be wrong.
It seems like you can transfer any supported altcoins in but not dollars unless you are doing a large wire transfer ($10k+)
Bittrex lets you wire USD and the minimum is a huge amount of $100,000.
