Bitnation Pangea — The Internet of Sovereignty

Personal note

I am aware of Bitnation since 2015 — I’ve participated as a coder in BRER — Bitnation Refugee Emergency Response. Too bad in 2018 we have even more refugees and we need to find better, more scalable and more sustainable solutions.

Bitnation is a blockchain-based platform that allows individuals to turn into a “world citizen”.
Bitnation illustrates itself as a “holocratic” organization” determined to become a completely operational decentralized autonomous organization or DAO.

Holacratic implies a no traditional management configuration or obstructions to join. Anyone can become a member of the platform or make a team called a “holon”.

Holon can be involved with for-profit or non-profit organizations. These groups can profit from the support and technological infrastructure of the Bitnation community.

Bitnation was established in July 2014 and presently having thousands of members all over the globe. The Bitnation platform is based on the Ethereum blockchain.

The Bitnation ecosystem is composed of 4 main parties. The lowest level is World Citizen and is open to anyone.
Four core parties interact with the platform as such:
World Citizen participates in the Bitnation DAO.

Ally partners with Bitnation and gets access to all teams, communities, chats, and the newsroom. They are able to post straight to the Bitnation Facebook and Twitter feeds. The DAO encourages people with a plan to radically disrupt the world to become an Ally.

Embassies and Consulates are actual locations that members can cooperate. An embassy is where they can both live and work, while a consultant is where they can work or arrange a meetup.

Ambassadors are specially-trained persons connected with the Bitnation DAO. They will be in three types. These are Diplomatic Ambassadors (DA), Diplomatic Consuls (DC), and Goodwill Ambassadors (GA). During the start of Bitnation, there was initially an exclusive group of members called Ambassadors.

The 3 positions were a modification made as the organization transitioned to a DAO structure.
This project has appeal to believers or “techno-libertarians” of a border-free world, where movement between economic structures is allowed if deem convenient.

The project is a bold plan that could transform the whole foundation of the world’s authorities. Nation-state structures haven’t undergone major changes since the 1500s even though it’s been formalized since the beginning of the 20th century. It’s justifiable to think of a possible major change in this structure soon.

Bitnation founder, Susanne Tarkowski Tempelhof, was raised in a Franco-Swedish family. Her father had been stateless for 10 years. She realized as blockchain technology prospered throughout the early 2010s that there was a potential to create a blockchain-based identification system for the entire world.

The platform started only offered digital Ids but by October 2014, the platform concluded its first blockchain marriage. Also that month, they organized the first Blockchain World Citizenship at the World Crypto Network (WCN).

Bitnation desires to change the system of the world’s political power structure through the distributed ledger technology. They are focusing on blockchain based solutions for decentralized governance. Their bitcoin debit cards are provided through the Wirex platform and all major currencies (USD, EUR, and GBP)are supported. They offer free worldwide shipping with wallets available for Android and iOS.

Even though anyone can join and become a world citizen, US citizens are not included to enter their platform. There have also been complaints concerning their customer support service not answering request or queries and the long wait for verification of membership — it is understood, after all the demand is through the roof.
