Bitfilm of the Day (September 1, 2016): Thru Jerusalem

in #bitfilmoftheday8 years ago

Thru Jerusalem by Kutiman was part of our festival programme in 2011. It did not win an award, but nevertheless it is one of our all time favourites.

Kutiman, a musician from Tel Aviv, has developed a unique technique of composing and filmmaking. He takes video snippets of musicians playing and turns them into new tracks. He started this with YouTube clips and then elaborated by recording musicians live on video.

Thru Jerusalem features many musicians from the "Holy City", both traditional and modern ones. In Kutiman's world, Jews and Arabs play together in perfect harmony. It is a fascinating portrait of Israel's capital and its various cultures - and an impressive message for peace.

Interesting idea. I liked the beginning, especially when all the different instruments were added.
