Hi, Steemit! I'm Casandra: an author, artist, and single mom!
About a year ago, I found myself in the precarious situation of being a single mom with 3 kids, needing urgently to get back into the workforce.
The father of my children no longer lives in the country and he needed to find a reliable way to pay child support. First, we tried bank wires... but between his bank and mine, there just wasn't anything left over for the kids.
Then we discovered bitcoin. He was really excited about it. To me it was simply, "How do I turn this bitcoin thing into rent?"
I wouldn't trust coinbase or similar companies with my bitcoins, not when bank accounts get seized randomly and websites get hacked. I'm just a mom with 3 adorable kids who just wants to do a good job and make sure they get what they need, not have my child support seized by the government!
Now I've discovered Steem. The same friend who introduced me to bitcoin also invited me to join the Steem community. So you mean to tell me I can come here, talk about the same things I'd be talking about on Facebook and Twitter, but with smarter people in general and maybe make a little Christmas money this year? Yes!

I've just created a new tag "storytime" to collect short stories.
I'm working on a system to bring more authors and content creators on board for exclusive content and I'd like to prove that authoring more than a simple blog post can gain traction too.
Was wondering if you would read this short story I wrote and comment there, upvote and give some general feedback. It's a short story exclusive to steemit, not published anywhere else. If it can get some visibility it will prove to all the content creators that I know, that steemit is a better way of doing patronage than Patreon or other subscription models.
