Check Your Bitcoin Gold Balance

in #bitcoingold7 years ago

Bitcoin Gold blockchain is live, finally and sort of. It went undercover after the fork - does anybody remember it - sometime in October.

Now you can check your balance on various bitcoin addresses that you hold the private keys of*

Now to the big question - will I get something out of it? How if yes?

In my humble opinion nobody who isn't a religious believer in BTG will hold it for long.

Coinmarketcap has a list of markets where you can trade it.

The current value is around $260 which is decent for a free money.

Bitcoin Gold Wallets

Are there any? I don't know. Here is the quote from theofficial site:

Some wallets may offer you direct access to your BTG, while others may require you to take additional technical steps. Verified wallets that support BTC and BTG side-by-side will be listed on the Bitcoin Gold home page. We will publish guides for retrieving BTG from the most popular wallets, including Bitcoin Core, Electrum, Mycelium, hardware wallets, paper wallets, and more.

So the answer is - none yet.

It is said that Coinomi app wallet does / will support BTG in beta stage without the transactions.

This part of Coinomi instructions is super important to me:

I didn't have BTC in Coinomi at the time of the snapshot. How do I claim BTG?

  1. Create a BTG wallet in Coinomi, WITHOUT altering the derivation path (our instructions in the link above were for people who had BTC in Coinomi at the time of the snapshot).
  2. Get the private key of the BTC address that contained the BTC at the time of the fork. Consult your wallet provider's FAQs on how to do this if you have trouble doing so. Consulting our article for the (near similar) situation of the Bitcoin Cash fork, might help you get your private keys from your wallet provider: https://coinomi.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/29000013719-how-to-get-bitcoin-cash-from-many-wallet-software-services-with-coinomi
  3. From your new BTG Coinomi wallet's Overview page, click on .../Sweep Wallet, and enter the private key you got at step 2.

I suppose that this will sweep the BTG chain of your wallet to Coinomi wallet and leave the BTC intact.

Any thoughts on this procedure?

* You can check any address, of course. You will be able to do something with BTG on these addresses only if you have proper access to them. Which means their private keys.

Images above are captured from the respective sites.

Yesterday, after publishing this article, I went and installed Coinomi app. Opened BTG wallet, swept several BTC wallet addresses into it and ... now I have my BTG coins in it. A success!

Next step - how to trade them?

I'll write a new article about Coinomi wallet. Stay tuned.

There is no next step for the time being.

https://bitcoingold.org/ is not working, BTG blockchain is not accessible.
