As the first cryptocurrency, the rest (like Litecoin, Doge, Monero, Dash etc) wouldn't have come into existence without it. Steemit wouldn't be here!

Bitcoin is a decentralised currency based on the blockchain which is a public ledger. Unlike with fiat currency, it's not monopolised nor manipulated to suit a select few. As you can imagine, there are big implications to our freedom from tyranny in this. Hence the gaining big interest (as in being curious, not the a.p.r % type) from the press and public, and the dismissive noises from the bigwigs in the banking world.
