With altcoins stealing the show, Bitcoin had quieted for a few days. Now, it returns...

Last weekend, the CBOE launched Bitcoin futures amidst much publicity and fanfare. Bitcoin surged in value on the bullish attitudes of future contracts. Soon after, starting on Monday, Bitcoin's dominance diminished slightly as Litecoin, and then Ethereum, took the reins and pulled in huge gains. This continued to trickle down into a few other coins that saw significant jumps in value. Bitcoin's dominance dwindled from close to 65% down to around 57% percent of the market currently.

Bitcoin stands at a market cap near $300 billion now whereas the entire cryptocurrency market stands just a little above $5 billion. Clearly, Bitcoin remains king.

This upcoming Monday, the CME - Chicago Mercantile Exchange - a much larger exchange than the CBOE, will launch Bitcoin futures.

Due to the positive movement in Bitcoin prices after the CBOE launch, it seems that traders are not as nervous this time around. There seems to be an attitude of confident optimism instead.

It may well pay off to stay on the Bitcoin train over the next number of days. It is tempting to chase gains in other currencies, but if your portfolio does not show a net gain in Bitcoin value, you are actually losing ground. Avoid falling for the FOMO and stay the course. Profit-taking can have an extremely powerful effect on values, especially on coins with smaller circulations, so be prepared for volatility in the altcoin market as the weekend approaches.
